Roof maintenance

We have a Jay Flight 36 BHDS, new Dec 2013. Somewhere I read someone recommended painting the roof every six months. The trailer is kept on Big Pine Key FL, so the weather, and particularly the sun is pretty hot.
Still, every six months seems often. Any experiences?
Also, what to use when painting?

It's likely the six month reference was to inspect the roof - and other penetrations of the trailer body - every six months for loose or cracked caulk or other conditions that might cause a water leak. Products to re-caulk a roof include Dicor self leveling caulk and Dicor non-self leveling caulk. On the body of the trailer (to caulk around lights hatches and windows) products include Geocel Proflex clear and white caulks. Most specifically do not recommend any sealer containing silicone for common trailer re-caulking repairs.

Some people believe that painting a sealer or top coat approved for your type of roofing material is a good idea. Others believe that such products are a waste of money. Certainly on a fairly new trailer, roof top coats should not be needed.

X2. Just keep it clean every 6 months or so and you should be good to go. Happy camping!
