roof won't lift

Brand new camper 2 weeks old
and the roof wont lift again
i open the panel to see the problem and what i saw made me angry
lifting cable running against the edge of rusting steel tube.

A better question is why there is grease all over the plastic electrical conduit and the cable is running next to it in the rusty steel tube? Moving steel cables next to electrical is not a good design.

iggy, Since this is your first post, Welcome to the JOF family. As you can see our members want to help and are interested. It would be very helpful to give some more info on the model and age of your rig, Also another pic of more of the lifting mechanism.

My first thought is, Why all that grease?

That is not a plastic electrical conduit That is the spring which is part of the lift system

I'd like to know the model year of that trailer. Rust on the inside parts of a brand new trailer?

Iggy, I had a problem with my Hemlock back in 2011. What I had to do is grab the cable and snap it like a chalk line. It was bound up on one of the other pulleys but I did take it in for a service with pictures and they went through the whole pulley system. Also if you have a hand crank not electric check the shear pins that the shaft engages. But, I agree with others here we need to know make model and year
