Frequently when you are forced to go off the road into a driveway with a large slope or dip, the rear end of the trailer will sometimes contact the road surface. It's unavoidable. Usually there are several impatient drivers behind that dont understand why you need to take it slow, and so you try to move as fast as you think you can go. This happened to me on my way home pulling my trailer last weekend. My wife was watching me and she noticed something on the bottom of the trailer scratched the road surface.
I went to the back of the trailer and saw the first thing that's contacting the ground is the propane line that is to be used to hook up a grill at the back. Although the line has valve cutoffs, and you should not drive with the propane service turned on, it seems to me somewhat dangerous that the propane line can contact the ground. If you forget to turn your propane tank valves off, and you strike the pavement, rupture the line and create a spark, what will happen? I would hate to see it.

Could be that the new type tank valves, will close when they sense a large flow of gas. Mine gives me grief if I happen to open the valves too fast, by shutting off the gas. I then must close the valves, and open them very slow.

I'm with you about not leaving the gas on while traveling. Way too much can go wrong without adding flammable gas to the mix!


When we have to take it easy through narrow, twisty fueling stations and rough, dippy pavement, it is quite rude of other drivers to insist we rush through because THEY left late and are in a hurry!

My Skylark came with skid brackets at the back of the trailer that hit before anything else.

I would move the propane line so it can't possibly rub on the pavement or be hit by anything going under the trailer.

I leave the propane on. Turn it off when re-fueling.
