Not sure if this is a big issue or not but I took my TT into the dealer to get some warranty work. Keys were in the wife's purse so he quickly opened it with a key he had. Do dealers have a master key? How safe is my trailer when I leave it in the park for a day of sightseeing? My feeling is that most RV parks are pretty secure but I travel with some very expensive camera equipment. Should I be worried about someone with a master Jayco key getting into my TT?

They have a master for the door lock not the dead bolt. Always lock the dead bolt and no worries.

The cabinet locks if equipped are also keyed in common between many RVs including different brands.

My door and deadbolt keys are the same. My understanding is there are a relatively small number of keys for RV's and dealers do have a set of keys that will open all.

So are mine, but the dealer master doesn't work on the dead bolt, even the factory did not have a master key for the dead bolt. The service center emphasized that numerous times when I dropped it off. "Don't lock the dead bolt".

Newer Jayco units, and most others, have a latch lock and a deadbolt. They have been different keys on all other RVs we have had. Our first gen Seneca, however, has only a deadbolt lock. I would not recommend storing any valuables in outside storage (such as basement storage cabinets). Those keys are very common across many RV manufacturers. You might consider storing valuables under the bed, with some sort of locking mechanism you add to that in addition to the door lock. I am considering that for the occasional times we carry something particularly valuable there.

If someone really wants to get in they obviously could.
Mine has the pass through storage under the bed, so a common compartment key would get them in there and could push up the bed on struts to get in the trailer.

Plus, I always use the key and the deadbolt when locking for less chance of locking myself out.

One of the very first things I did was change out all my locks, especially the compartment ones. I keyed my trailer so all we need is 1 key.

When I bought mine their master worked both locks, deadbolt included.

I ordered 1 replacement door lock (keyed to match my second entrance door and new compartment lock cylinders from a website called RVLocksAndMore | RV Locks | RV Keys | Fastec FIC Locks and Keys They allow you to specify a specific key code and will ship all locks keyed the same. Very easy upgrade and took less than 30 minutes and was under $50.00

yes the techs have the compartment key and master keys. if your unit is equipped with a deadbolt set up witch is most, we do not have keys for those.. after servicing a unit we use our key to lock it up. most dealer service areas are gated so really there should be no worries...

I've seen folks put multiple massive dead bolts on their house doors. Right beside the door is a wall often made of some particle board (or MDF) siding and a half inch of sheetrock. Like you said, locks aren't built to keep out real thieves.

My German Shepherd Dog makes a great deterrent! Never have had an issue with anything stolen, Hope my luck holds out!

I replaced all of my cargo area locks with a set from these guys -
CH751 RV REPLACEMENT LOCKS, CAM LOCKS, CAMLOCKS

They had a lot of options to get exactly what you want. I picked the kind of locks that are used on vending machines, (tubular cam locks) you can customize the keys so they have a colored 'handle' all of mine are blue now, just makes it a little easier to find the right key when you have a ring with several on it. Just don't forget the key for your outside shower... I have to carry my original key around *just* for that. I'm ordering one more lock, keyed the same, this week. Fast shipping, etc.. I'm not affiliated with them in any way, was just very happy with their service. They make getting the exact - correct lock pretty easy. You are just guessing with most of the lock sets on amazon... there's more to it than just buying a set of locks.. you have to measure a few things on your originals. I still wouldn't trust these locks fully, but knowing that *your* key won't just grant you easy access to my storage was some peace of mind. Some of the dealers are pretty lazy and they just make copies of the master for customers that have 'lost' their keys. That's one of many ways the master keys get into the wild so easily.

ETA - I have not and probably won't change out the other key that operates my door and deadbolt. I took a few lock picking classes years ago. Honestly, a decent screwdriver and someone could open any door they wanted in an RV. That deadbolt is about the size of a pencil eraser lol.
