Shore Power Question
Hi to all of you good folks who love to camp and share their experiences!
We just bought a Jayco 195 SLX and are getting ready to take our maiden voyage on Sunday. In prep for the trip, we plugged in the power cord to the house so we could start up the refrigerator and get accustomed to some of the features in the trailer.
When we plugged it in, everything looked good, lights, fridge, a/c etc. But we have what looks like a cooling fan that is on at the power center (where all the fuses are), it has not shut off at all.
Is this okay or do we need to change something or try something to have it stop?
I've read all the material we rec'd with the trailer and nowhere does it mention this cooling fan.
Please can someone who knows about this stuff help me out??

That fan keeps the converter cool. It could run if there is any load on the converter (lights, battery charger etc) It is also dependent on the ambient air temp inside your unit.

The fan usually runs as a result of the load placed on it. Is it possible your battery was fairly well discharged and is getting heavily charged? It may take several hours to accomplish a full charge. If you have all of your lights off and not running the water pump a lot the fan should cut off eventually. How long has it been running non-stop?

That may have been the problem Chuck, it shut off after a couple of hours.
That brings me to a second question, when we are not using the trailer should we disconnect the battery?

How long do you plan on not using it at a time? If you are not going to use it for more than 2 weeks you might disconnect the battery. If you can plug the trailer in at home you can power it up for 2 - 3 hours a week and it will keep the battery up.
The CO/Propane detector and the radio cannot be turned off. Be sure you do turn off the antenna amplifier.

My trailer is in the back yard at the bottom of the drive way and is always plugged into a 20 amp circuit in the garage. Keeps the battery charged, and we run the small fridge in the front for adult beverage cooling.

We had the trailer parked for a month in the driveway after we brought it home. I had a total knee replacement right after that so it just sat, not plugged in or anything. So technically if we don't use it during the summer months we can keep it plugged in to house power and it will be okay? Or should we disconnect the battery? Over the winter it will be housed inside the garage with the battery disconnected because that's what my hubby would do. :-)

I keep mine plugged in year round, under a carport until freeze notice then inside the shop. Last TT was 7 years old w/1 battery replacement.

Nothing wrong with keeping the TT plugged in if you are able to. I live in Alaska, I keep my TT plugged in whenever it is not in use. When it gets extremely cold, I remove the batteries (I utilize two) and bring them inside and place them on a trickle charge with a maintainer. I still keep the trailer plugged in though (I do wrap and suggest anyone else doing this to wrap the battery cable ends in plastic).

If you do leave it plugged in make an effort to check the battery fluid levels as depending on which converter/charger you are using it may boil out your batter fluids over time.
Easy thing to do is just check the battery fluid levels on a regular basis...
