Should my jack work on battery?

Should the Jack on my hitch work off the battery? Or does it only work when plugged into the TV or shore power?

Thanks,

David

It should work when on battery, it's a 12V jack.

Check your 30A fuse.

We blew ours the other day and I noticed it was shot because the jack worked while hooked up to the TV but once I disconnected everything and went to level front to back the jack stopped working.

The fuse is in the little fuse holder outside the camper near the battery.

I have a supply of those 30A automotive blade style (not the minis) fuses because of this.

Very helpful. I assumed because it worked on shore power and TV power that the fuse was fine - as I believe that the Jack runs off the battery regardless of where the power is coming from.

Ill check!

Once you get the fusing squared away, I *highly* recommend that when you have the option, you only user your power jacks when hooked up to a running tow vehicle, or shore power.

Those jacks gobble up more power than my daughters (and my own) youtube habits combined. I could probably run my LED lights in the camper for a full day with the power that jack uses just to setup / tear down camp. Same with the slide out(s).

I thought the same thing. Unless I blew it when I unplugged the power from the TV. Most people comment that they blow the fuse while hitting the limits on the jack. As I mentioned I was unhooking and I lift the truck up to ease the removal of the WD hitch bars. I then normally lower it back down to release the ball then back up to clear it. That is when I disconnected everything and noticed that it didn't work as I couldn't bring it back down to level. Going up to clear the ball isn't near the top limit and while it is my driveway, this is on pretty much level ground. I popped in a new fuse and it was working fine off battery.

I agree that this is a pretty big draw on the battery. More so if you are running a single 12V like I am. Once leveled out it gets plugged in anyhow so that recharges it anyhow.

The cheap Chinese jacks jayco uses blew the fuses when over extended
I upped mine to 35 amp fuses after going 6 in one day and lower the line .

So it turned out that the Positive cable had fallen out of its battery cable lug, which was still attached to the terminal. I recrimped it and everything seems to be fine now.

I really don't like the lug that they are using, seems like the cable could come out again. Does anyone ever change these things out? What do you use?

Mine are crimp on too. I thought about using a quick disconnect for some of the smaller 12V terminals that attach to the battery like this https://www.amazon.com/Allstar-Perfo.../dp/B003C01FD6

Also thought about just soldering on the ring connector which is a more secure connection than crimping.
