Silverado 1500 - Happy with mileage
We bought a 2015 27DSRL and are very happy with it. Zero defects so far! And, for anyone thinking about it, our 2009 Chevy Silverado with the 5.3 is consistently getting me 9.5 - 10mpg. We even got 11 mpg coming home with a tail wind on one trip. Since I was told to expect 7.5 - 8mpg, I am very pleased with these numbers. Sure I wish I had more power and a 3/4 ton. But all in all I'm a happy camper.

9.5 - 10 is what my 2013 gets currently. Yes, more power would be nice, but the budget says not right now. I've been weighed and am within the limits of the truck, so it will do for now.

I was consistently getting 10.5 to 11 with our old hybrid, and we haven't towed the new one enough to get some reliable numbers yet. But bringing the trailer home from the dealer 3.5 hours away into a strong headwind was giving us between 8.5 and 9 mpg.

I'm getting about 8.6 with my 2012 burb towing a 28 BHBE. So I'd love to have that mileage.

I posted this on another post towing my 28BHBE to Alaska
Just FYI on numbers for towing the 28bhbe with the 5.3L and 3.23 rear end.
My truck did great towing the camper to Alaska. After talking to several people on towing trailers I was advised not to upgrade the rear end to the 3.73 gear but just tow in 3rd gear and the RPMs would be about the same as if I had installed to 3.73 gear.
3rd gear at 60 MPH = 2500 RPMs and 70 MPH = 2800 RPMs
5.3L with the 3.23 gear has a Max Trailer weight of 6900 lbs and a GCWR of 12,000 lbs.
5.3L with the 3.73 gear has a Max Trailer weight of 7900 lbs and a GCWR of 13,000 lbs.
The trailer was at 8420 lbs loaded with only 20 gallons of water which was 1520 lbs over the max towing weight and 14,460 lbs GCWR. Which is 2460 over the GCWR weight. I kept a eye on temptures which were all in the normal range my average speed was 54.37 mph for the 2762 mile trip doing it in 50.8 hours. Mileage was good in the states with 9.5 mpg but in some parts of Canada in droped to 7.5 mpg but this was due to head winds. Also lower mileage in Canada was do to speeds of 70 mph. I had no sway problems with winds and speed due to a good hitch set up and a wind deflector on the truck, I believe a wind deflector is a must if towing long distance, it keeps the trailer under control with wind flow. I have reached speeds of 88 mph down hill passing trucks with no sway. Just a note that I was driving across Canada in the spring time when the temps were in the 50s and in the fall it will be the same on the return. I would not recommend this kind of driving in mid summer with high temps crossing the mountains.
Anyways just wanted to share the numbers with you if you have some one with weight questions or concerns towing with a 5.3L and over weight.

I got better MPG towing the Jayco 28BHBE than I did towing my Puma 19FS.

That's about what I get with our '08 Sierra 5.3 3.73 gears, towing our much shorter and lighter trailer. So this sounds great for yours!

milage is pretty much in the normal range of 8 on the low side to 12 on the higher side. We pulled a 28' Keystone TT [loaded around 6000] with our 08 Silverado 1500 and the standard V8 w/ tow package. Did fine and plenty of power but tended to see higher tranny temps in the mountains. When we upgraded to a larger White Hawk the 1500 again did fine in the power range, but the tranny temps went to 230+. Dealer [GM] said not a problem but that 2500HD w/ duramax showed up at a local dealership and the rest is history.
With your rig, just watch the tranny temps.

Actually thinking of adding a larger transmission cooler to mine. Highest I've seen is 205.

No need then. 205 is nominal. I see 190 in high winds and hills. You can run short bursts of 120-130 without damaging the trans. Going to TN in late summer. We'll what I get then, but I'm not expecting anything scary.

I get 20-21 L/100km with my ram 1500, or 11.5 mpg.. Not bad I guess..
