Slide
Hi folks. Dumb question here but I finally have a camper with a slide and was wondering of you folks leave it out or in when you have it parked in the driveway. I have seen it done both ways. Is there a method to the madness here? Once again I apologize for the dumb question.

We leave our slides in while stored in the barn. I imagine it's so my hubby can park his tractor next to it. My bro-in-law parks his with the slides out. Maybe it's all personal choice?

Hey Bruck, a dumb question is one I don't know the answer, HAHA. I leave mine out more than in while stored in my yard. If we have a big rain or I am cutting grass, I will bring them in.
I have never experienced a problem for doing it this way.
I like to know that they will work when needed so I don't wait till I am going somewhere to exercise them.

Hi, Bruck!! As said there are no dumb questions...it's the answers that are sometimes questionable! :hihi:
I have a double wide driveway. I leave the curb side entertainment slide in as that allows me to park another vehicle in the driveway on that side of the trailer. The street side bedroom and dining/sofa slides are left out most of the time unless there is a forecast for heavy rain, etc.

I was told by a more experienced RV'r, that it is less likely to be stolen if you leave the slides out when its in the driveway.....
Mine doesn't spend much time at home, but when it is there, the slide is out.

My dealer says that it is ok to have them in or out. I leave mine in because I have to park under trees in my backyard. So lots of leaves and small branches end up on top of the slide. Also roof of slide remains clean if retracted.

I think my biggest concerns were around sag. In other words, will the slide droop after time just hanging out there.

No it shouldn't. I am like many above in and out during the storage phase. I cannot get in my unit without opening up the big slide so that is out a lot with being in and out prepping and cleaning between trips. The advantage to keeping it in are that most likely it will not leak, incur sun damage or a dirty roof.
During the winter storage it is all buttoned up and flush as snow weight and ice damming could inflict damage to the slides.

I store at home and leave it in, unless it is being used. Why? Cuz the seals on my trailer are much better when it is in. Just me...

My RV is on a permanent site and I leave the slides out the entire camping season with no problem. If you look at the RV's in the dealer lots their slides are out winter, spring, summer, fall.

Leaving it in protects it better from the weather.. out means you can use it as a man cave or a hen house...
