Slideout durability
I am still saving/looking for a new (maybe used) travel trailer.
How high on the list of things that are likely to wear out/break are the slideouts?
Does Jayco have an extended warranty on the rails motor etc.?
If the motor dies on a camping trip, can you manually push it back in or are you stuck driving down the interstate with it hanging out?
How often should you lube the rails, just when you winterize? ..dewinterize?
For reference, I am looking at the X213.

Slideouts like any thing else in life can fail but there are ways (cranks) to manually bring them back in if they fail. Jayco has a two year warranty. You aren't supposed to grease the slide outs.

Slide outs have come along way over the years. They are pretty dependable on the motors and gears lasting along time. They have also gotten better on sealing them so i think if you get something relativity new you should have years of use with out issue.

Check out the 213 slide threads in the Jayco Lite section. If you are looking at a used 213 check to see if it has the silver colored as opposed to gold colored slideout motor.

This was one of my concerns when we were considering which trailer to buy. As others have mentioned if the motor fails you still have the option to extent/retract manually. Our unit has one slide but even if the slide isn't extended it doesn't prohibit use of the general sofa/dinette area.

I would love to learn how to bring the slide in manually as well as the awning in the event we ever have a problem. If either one stopped working on my next trip out I would have no idea what to do.

We opted NOT to have a slideout when we bought our new TT. We (I) decided that specifically because of the additional mechanical equipment and weight. But...then again - my folks have a small slide in their trailer and the 'bum' room you get, especially in their kitchen area, silences any argument I'll ever have about them. I suspect our next trailer will likely have one (or two)....

Can someone post the procedure for manually cracking in the slide?

On my Jayco it is not possible to manually crank in the slide outs.

The x213 has a crank handle for the motor that is located inside just below the slideout in case the motor fails to pull it in. I have a 5 yr extended warranty that I purchased. We love this trailer....

Appears that many 213's with slide extension problems, ours included, have had original equipment gold colored motor replaced on warranty with a silver colored motor that seeems to solve the issue. We also love our trailer, we shopped long and hard to find a unit with a bed where I could (at 6'4") sleep confortably.

My 2012 32TSBH has gold colored ones. Glad I bought that extended warranty!

The manual is very vague on this with no specifics about where to look or what to do. On my sofa slide there is a gear under the sofa that has a bolt on the bottom. To manually move the slide I attach a socket with a 1/2" ratchet to the bolt and turn it. One way extends the slide, the other way retracts it. And it takes a bunch of turns to fully retract even this shallow slide. I only stumbled onto this procedure by investigating it myself, I wanted to know how to retract the slide in the event of a failure while camping. Never had to use it though in nearly three years of owning this unit.
