ST225/75R15 Goodyear® Marathon Radial

I have a ST225/75R15 Goodyear® Marathon Radial that the belt has either separated or slipped. I found it and replaced it with the spare before any incident occurred. The center tread on the tire is bulging and ruptured while the inside tread line is cupped and wearing irregular. I have a set of five, counting the spare, that that came on our 2011 Travel Trailer. The date code reads 2910. All the other tires look just fine. There is at least half of the tread depth remaining. Tires have no more than 10,000 miles on them. Am I OK to replace the defective one only and carry on business as usual or should I be weary of the remaining ones and replace them all?

Personally, I would replace both tires on the same side at the least. If funds allow, or the other side gives you a bad "gut feeling", replace the four on the ground, and leave the spare, which sounds like it's never been used.

I would take the defective tire to a authorized Goodyear dealer and they should either give you a new one or at a discounted price. I would also ask that the remaining Marathons be inspected for separation.

I believe in checking my tires at every fuel stop, and by so doing I have found at least two tires that had broken belts (not the same time). What I do is to squat down and get in line with the center of each tire and check it for roundness - the broken belts I found made the affected tire lumpy and out of round.

Replace all of them.

Maxxis are a great replacement tire!

2910 indicates that your tires were made the 29th week in 2010. That makes them 5 years old. I would replace all tires irrespective of tread left. In not, then the next ply separation is right around the corner.

I agree with replacing the tires, at least the 4 if funds are tight and keep the spare until you can repace it as well.

I also do a walk around at least every fuel stop that's how I found this one... I'd like to switch to LT tires but am having no luck with finding LT225/75R15. I'm really leaning towards the 225/75R15 Maxxis M8008 10ply (Load Range E).

My experience with Goodyear Tire is they are very good at giving you adjustments on tires that are separated but not blown. I suspect it is to keep you in the Goodyear family. If you have damage due to a blowout, always keep the tire and take it to a Goodyear dealer authorized to file a claim.

I you want to exchange cash to apply to another brand tire, forget it!

Can I expect to replace Maxxis tires every 5 years or so as well?

According to all I have read yes you should replace any ST tire brand after somewhere around 5 years. The problem is many of them never make it more then a year or two. The Maxxis seem to get very good reviews on these forums compared to many other brands. They are a bit pricier but........

Tires

If you do a little research you will find that 5 yrs or more on any RV tire it is time to change them out. Just asking for trouble if you don't. Been there done that!!!.

Thanks to all for your very helpful comments. I've read plenty of comments suggesting moving to an LT application rather than sticking with ST. Has any one considered using Firestone Transforce HT 225/75R16 in lieu of an ST application? If so, how did it go. I have a Firestone dealer in our neighborhood. These would we very easy to obtain and get serviced. Thanks again....

I don't have them but have two friends that run them on large fifth wheels in 16 in. LR E. They have received good service from them.

Replace all of them now. As said in another reply your tires are 5 years old, rubber deteriorate after time. I replaced my on my other trailer with MAXXIS 10 ply. Great tire and less problems then the Goodyear tires

tires

I have a 2011 Eagle with the lousy china tires. I replaced them with Carlisle E rated tires, still China tires, but the E rating makes a HUGE difference in the ride, and the tires don't squat like the old Goodyear. Too bad we can't buy trailer tires made in the USA

Good luck, yes replace them all! Safe Camping
