It would have to be the 120V since the EMS is totally inrelated to 12VDC power.

I recommend the permanent install type. It's theft proof and covers a lot more than just voltage spikes. If you can operate a screwdriver and wire strippers you can install one. I put mine in with interlocking plugs, so in the event of an EMS failure, I can remove it, plug the plugs back together and continue on. It also makes it easier to transfer it to another trailer, which I did. As far as affecting the warranty, it would have to be determined that the EMS cause the problem. If installing items like this had an adverse effect on the warranty, there would be very little after market equipment sold for new trailers.

That's correct, it was shutting off the 120v side. I have the model w/ the display monitor, so fortunately, all I had to do was flip a switch on it and bypass the ems to get power.

See Bob Landry's post about 4 back. He had a great idea of installing interlocking plugs between the EMS and its associated wiring. I just hardwired it but those plugs would make it a snap to remove if/when you sell your TT.

I think he used two sets of L5-30s. I really like the idea, but it adds quite a bit to the cost overall. There is an override switch on the unit incase something goes wrong that should work in most cases to activate the contactor. I figure worst case I open the box and jumper the wires.

I checked out the cost and you're right. It ain't cheap but it's still a clever idea.

I still need to clean up that wire running to the meter and I did pull that sticker off. LOL Oh and fishing that wire took me longer than everything else I did to install this thing!

Your install looks great, and you seem to have had plenty of room for the mounting. I checked the area available (7" x 11") where I plan to install mine last week, and there seems to be enough space with a couple of inches to spare.

I'm going to add a few flat washers (@ the mounting screws) between the back of the EMS and my mounting surface for added air circulation (not sure how warm these units get). I hope to tackle my install next week.

That sounds like a good idea, especially if it does get hot. While I was down under the cabinet poking around and reinstalling that sideboard, etc., I didn't notice any heat... but there is a slight buzz while the unit is working. It's not real loud though.

It's a basic unit, but is reassuring when you are camping in a park with older electric.
