Sway command

I have a new Whitehawk due the end of the month. A new Gmc truck too. I just read about an issue with the sway control recalled and not working gmc vehicles. Is this still an issue or has it been solved? Anyone know how well This technology works?

I will just say kind of.

They fixed it by not making it available anymore.

2016 and some early 2017s came with it as an option or they were prewired for it. My 2017 built in Nov 2016 does not have the prewire for Sway Command. So no need to worry about it because it is gone.

Does anyone know how well the sway control built into the truck works? GMC Sierra.

My Denali doesn't have sway control as far as I know. If you think about it though it is limited in what it can do. Most modern trucks have stability control which are basically accelerometers at various places. I would imagine GMC is using one to detect that sway is likely causing the truck to shift and it can detect that there isn't any steering input. Once a threashold is exceeded it would just apply trailer brake. I think the benefit to Sway Command is that it could brake individual wheels on the trailer to compensate much like Stabilitrack can do on GM vehicles. However the camper won't have power wires to each brake for the truck to do this and the trailer is no longer "smart" enough to do this. So all this means is the truck senses sway and it activates trailer brake to pull the sway out automatically. Well you could have done that yourself by tapping the switch on your dash for your brake controller. The benefit here is you didn't have to fumble for the switch, you can keep both hands on the wheel and control the vehicle and the truck will apply the brakes on the trailer for your.

The sway control system for Ford continuously monitors the steering wheel rotation and yaw sensors. If the system senses sway that exceed the parameters, the ABS module and HCU modulate fluid to specific calipers on the tow vehicle. The PCM will modulate engine torque until the sway event is reduced below the set parameters of the system. The system utilizes the TBC for the trailer brakes to help in the sway.

We have the 27DSRL. The sway command for the trailer was pre-wired but was de-activated by the dealer. Our TV has built in sway control but we have not been in a situation where it was needed.
