Tank Level Indicator Question.

I have a 2007 jayflight 31bhs and when I empty by black or gray water my tank indicator still shows 3/4 or more. I dried out my black water tank and it now shows empty. My fresh water tank reads accurately. My gray water tank is empty and the drain has been open for 24 hours (so I know it is empty) and it still shows 3/4. When I hold the button down for a minute the 3/4 light goes out indicating 1/2 full.

Is this the norm or do I have a problem?

Thanks in advance for any help.

This is the norm, I`m afraid. I have little faith in the indicators. Even my fresh tank when full to the brim reads 2/3. You can clean your tanks and may see some temporary improvement but no long term fix.................

Chances are that the only tlime those gauges were correct was in 2007 when it left the dealers lot. You can somewhat rely on the frest water gauge and the battery gauge but not the others.

Thumbs down

Would that these gauges were optional. Then we could all save a couple $$.

Common problem with a lot of RVs. Most black tank and grey tank gauges are notoriesly innaccuate. Several solutions have been tried but few have worked.

If you're willing to make a small investment ($$$), this company manufactures products that will accurately measure the level of water (or whatever) in your holding tanks. I have RV friends that have their equipment installed so I know it works.

What you end up doing is "learning" your tanks. What I do is start with the gauges, but like you said they are pretty inaccurate. Next - I took a flashlight to the toilet and looked down the hole. I watched it fill all the way up until it starts to reach the level of the floor. I was amazed at just how much I could get in there. I can pretty quickly gauge my tank level by just looking down the hole now. The gray was a little more tricky, but I find the gauge works most of the time after it has sat for a while and any splash has come off the sensors. If you have an open underbelly, you can also look under there and see how much the tank is bulging. It is actually pretty interesting how much the tank expands as it fills and can give you a good indication of how full it is.

Each time I add chemicals to the black holding tank, I add 1/2 to 1 cup of liquid laundry detergent( cheap stuff) with a bucket of water, then as we drive down the road the tanks gets washed, when you dump the tank, the "stuff" smells better and the soap makes it slicker so far my tank gauges work. Same trick on the gray tanks,

Thanks for all the input. I have the tanks open and empty now for three days and they are reading 1/3. Looks like any moisture inside will give them reading errors.

New gauge that works... when the nasty stuff wont drop from the bowl.. and you are standing in gray water in the shower .. your tanks are full..... all kidding aside I just look down the toilet to see the black level.. and a few times taking a shower have filled the gray tank...

Fresh water tank indication

Any help on this please and thank you in advance.
I have a Jayco motor home29XS,
Stock tank indicator system, I get that they don’t read correctly in the grey and black tank, but the fresh water is where I have issues,
I’ve replaced the “resistor pack” and still get “0” reading on the fresh water tank, how do check the wiring back to the panel inside ?
I feel there is a break in there somewhere but can’t find it as the wiring so everywhere it shouldn’t.
I don’t know how to check the continuity of the wires or the marret type fittings.
Can someone help?
