Tank sensors 33rsks

I put the correct chemicals in my BW tank with water and pulled it to camp, and the sensors are still lit. Iwas told that i can put bags of ice in and it would do the job...any comments....

Put the ice in when you are driving. It's to physically knock the debris off the sensors.... if it doesn't work don't get to excited. These sensors are fussy and I can't say I've ever had any that worked great.

EDIT: I just read the part about 9 days... yeah, you are going to want to take it easy and keep your eye on it.

The rest I wrote before I read that:

The black tank has some margin for error in that it only backs up in one spot and it's pretty obvious.

Years ago I had the same concern so I decided starting with an empty tank that I would stand on the toilet pedal just to see how long it took to fill... I believe my rig had a 30gal black tank at the time... I quickly grew bored and realized that unless I was doing extended dry camping it was pretty much a non issue.

The gray tank is the one you will have to watch. I currently have a 10gal water heater and a nice large shower. When we come in from a cold day in the rain everyone like a nice warm shower. In an RV 10gal of hot water is a lot of hot water especially since it's being blended with cold.. after a day of showers, doing dishes and general useage I know I'm getting close to full. My current rig the gray will back up in the shower and while we have never had an overflow that is the one that I worry most about.

Enjoy..... I'd save the ice for mixed drinks and not worry too much about the sensors....

If you search there are lots of posts about different mixtures people claim will clean them... one involves Calgon bath beads, another is Fabric Softner, I've read about lemon juice and others... for me it was a fools errand.

I use a flashlight and look in the toilet and dump frequently.

On every RV I have had that is the case. No overflow but the toilet.

My current rig is a bumper pull, but I have a fifth wheel on order. I already called to see if they would put a 10gal in it, but it was a no go. They did offer the tankless option but after researching I decided that was not for me.

We are on about a 8 year cycle for new rv's

Enjoy your trip. Lots of people out there this weekend so travel safe.

I would invest in a VERY bright flashlight to look down into the tank occasionally. That way you're 100% sure of how much capacity you have left to use.

If you do a search on gauges for the black and grey tanks, you will find they don't work. You can do all you want to try to make it not so but it is so. In a very short time like maybe the first time you use the toilet. It begins and it never stops, just gets worse. The important thing is that when you flush out your black tank, you put two or three gallons of fresh water back into it to avoid what is affectionately referred to as the Pyramid of poop.

Not sure what model you have but I have a 2013 Eagle 314BDS and the outside kitchen sink is plumbed into the black tank (not sure why they would do this but they did). The black tank on my wrig will backup into the outside kitchen sink BEFORE it backs up into the Toilet due to being the lowest point in the system (don't ask me how I know)

rtbreeves; in the RV industry it is illegal to plumb gray plumbing into the black plumbing. so look again and if so contact Jayco.

Calvin and Dawn

I haven't found ice to work well. I have had success with 1 cup Calgon liquid and 1 cup Dawn dish washing liquid and a bunch of water. Then let it soak a day or more and even better a couple hour drive to agitate. Then a good dump and 3 flushes with back flush hose. If it doesn't work first time try again. Good luck.
