Thermal package

So even though I have the thermal package on my trailer the production line forgot to install ducts from my furnace to my underbelly. Contacted jayco and they told me the belly is just insulated enclosed. I then referred them to their own website description of the thermal package.
They have now authorized local dealer to install ducts to underbelly.

Anyone else have this issue. Was happy with my last jayco but this one is a lemon.

Still waiting for my special order 26BHS. How would I know if the duct is there or not? Does it go down near the heater?

I didn't. I sent jayco a question after a previous post on here about the infloor ducting after discovering that some units(of
My model) have 3 floor heat registers while others have 2 wall/couch vents. There isn't any consistency between them, so I thought it had to do with the thermal package option.
After a few emails with jayco warranty dept, my spec sheet on there end showed I had the thermal package but didn't show anything about 'heated underbelly'. So I questioned it against their advertised thermal package description and they agreed to add it.
I did look at my furnace(under my couch) and it only had 2 ducts coming from it( one for each of my vents ) so I knew right there that the underbelly wasn't getting heat. Hope that helps..

I have the Glacier package on my 24RKS White Hawk. The furnace is under the dinette seat near the bathroom. There are 4 ducts coming out of the furnace. One splits between the dining/living area and the bathroom (small duct to the bathroom), one to the kitchen, one to the bedroom and one goes through the floor right next to the furnace into the enclosed tank area.

Sounds like someone, somewhere, that knows nothing of this and assumes the tanks are heated could end up with a big problem

Wow, thanks for the info. I have the thermal package but have no idea if the enclosed underbelly is heated, or if it should be heated per specs. Guess I have some research to do.
Happy RVing

Very good info. I have no idea if my underbelly has actual heat to it or not. I have five floor registers but I'm not sure if there are five feeds coming off the furnace or some of. The lines split. That is my fault because the furnace had to be removed to replace a control board and that would have been an ideal time to check how many outlets. I do seem to remember that not all of them were even being used. However, the location of the furnace itself tends to lead me to believe it would heat the underneath quite a bit just from the heat coming off it. Don't know if that is a valid assumption or not. We all know what happens when you assume something.

are there any small holes in the floor leading to the enclosed area near tanks? I am thinking you could drop a small off the shelf temperature probe into the underbelly. I have seen the temperature guages for your house to measure outside temp. It has a digital readout inside the house and a small wired probe which goes outside.

Is it true, that just because your unit has an enclosed underbelly, you do not necessarily have the "thermal package", right?

My Jayflight has the enclosed underbelly, but you can clearly see water tubing external to the belly.

We have a 2013 28BHBE, my "window sticker" says we have the "thermal package w/foil". When I look at the 2013 model year brochure, for the thermal package it says:

THERMAL package: Insulated, heated and enclosed underbelly and 2-sided reflective
foil insulation in main roof and slideout roof

Now my OCD is making me wonder what's really there....I'll just have to dismantle it and find out, that's the answer!

I just send Jayco a question about the Glacier Package as to the enclosed underbelly. Where is my furnace vented, how are the holding tanks triple insulated and what does foamed inside the I-beams rails mean. I am 99% sure my furnace is not vent to the underbelly. We will see what comes back.

Could you please explain in more detail the Glacier Package, as to where the heat is vented into the underbelly, foamed inside the I-beams rails, and how the holding tanks are Triple- insulated.

Thank You
Craig and Gwen Ruddick

Good Morning,

Thank you for contacting Jayco customer service. In the Glacier package you get the following:

-Heat runs to the tanks. These are normally run with a flexible heat duct and will drop in around the tank. If there are 2 tanks next to one another it will drop between them.

-Extra layer of R-11 insulation in the roof

-Astrofoil in main roof(not slide roof). This adds an additional layer of insulation.

-Astrofoil in underbelly (laid in underbelly cavity)

The Glacier package is good to 32 degrees in a controlled environment. That means when it was tested there wasn’t any wind or environmental conditions. One should always take precautions when in these kinds of climates as the unit can still freeze up.

If we can be of any other assistance feel free to contact us at your convenience.

Sincerely,

Kirk Manring

Hi Kirk

Thank you for your answers. In my 5th wheel would I have 2 or 3 vents into the underbelly as I have 5 holding tanks ( 2 fresh water, 2 gray tanks, and 1 black tank )? From your answer ( Astrofoil in the underbelly ) I assume that all of the bottom of the underbelly has a layer of Astrofoil on top of the coroplast, is this correct? I still fail to see how the holding tanks are Triple-insulated could your explain this better? You did not answer the question about ( foamed inside the I-beams ) does this mean that the inside of the I-beams are spray foamed?

Thank you for your time
Craig and Gwen Ruddick

Good Morning,
Yes you should 2-3 vents in the underbelly. The triple insulation would be as such, there is a layer of insulation in the sub floor, a layer of insulation in the underbelly and the astro foil. Jayco has never spray foamed to insulate. Any spray foam used is to fill voids and seal up the underbelly.
I hope this is helpful

Sincerely,

Im not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling about the responses Timber got from the manufacturer. They sorta skirted around the actual questions. 2-3 vents into the underbelly! Yikes! that's a whole lotta heat and energy being wasted IMHO.

My coroplast belly has a peek-a-boo hole for access to the main slide motor, when it fails you can manually retract the slide with a socket set wrench. I might take a peek inside the underbelly to see what I can see.

I might need to send a light in, and then the video camera to pan around and see, the hole doesn't look big enough to stick my noggin in.

Its a bummer, because the last trip of the season was forecast to be cold enough to freeze tank valves, so I kept it winterized and we camped dry. (It also happened to be the unit's maiden voyage.)

From what I'm reading, my 32BHDS would have been perfectly fine to camp wet that one more time. Heck... if mine has 3 vents headed into the basement, I bet the poo would have started turning ripe.

Thanks for the inquiry Timber. We appreciate it.

Thermal package

On my rig, and i have looked, the heating system has vents in the underbelly area that pump hot air into the area. There also are louvers under the steps that allow circulation of air to flow into the living area. The storage area is open to the tanks and there is a foiled foam insulation on top of the underbelly covering.
When I open my storage doors the area is warm in winter as long as the furnace is running and cool in summer.

Note: don't leave any outside doors open or it greatly affects the efficiency .
