Time for Tires???????

Purchased our new 2013 Jayco 22FB in April of 2013. After 4 summers of camping we put 8,900 miles on the Power King ST205/75R 15 tires. Tires look like they are in good shape. What type of mileage should I expect? Am I on borrowed time? Thanks in advance.

I always err on the side of caution when it comes to critical safety things like tires, brakes and bearings. I can't see going more than 5 years on a set of trailer tires. What is the manufacture date?

Yep. There should be a four digit number on the tires. First two numbers tell the week and the last two numbers tell the year they were made. Trailer tires usually are replaced due to age than by mileage.

Like tomnjo says, it's age, not miles that count. The tires were probably made in 2012 for your 2013. IMO, you are on borrowed time.

You got 4 summers of camping on those tires with no problems. Don't push it. Blowing a tire could damage a rim, damage your trailer, blow your vacation, or cause a serious accident. Not worth the risk, in my book.

I have a 2012, code on the tires was 2011, last summer with around 6,000 miles on the tires I started seeing lateral, wear on one of tires, within 300 miles the tire blew, tore out the fender, huge hole into trailer, shredded tire all in the trailer, no problem, put the spare on, walk around doing a check of the other tires, there were two that should have blown because they had huge bulging in the treads, one was wearing laterally again, problem was I was 39 miles from a tire shop, I babied it on the interstate at 25-30 mph, strait to the tire shop and luckily didn't blow another tire.

Short story, buy new tires

Wayne, if you decide to put new tires on your camper I suggest you go up a "load range" for peace of mind.

Check out this sticky on trailer tires

Trailer Tire Facts

I replaced mine last spring. Mostly the same senerio, I did have one tire showing wear, probably from tire scub from backing into my driveway.

I upgraded one load rating, for piece of mind, as tt tires are rated at load capacity of the tt, and nothing more.
