Smile Tires

We have a Jayflight 2015 33RLDS. I've been told to buy better quality tires. The unit came with ST225/75R15 tires, manufacturer is "Tredit Tire & Wheel Co..
Any opinions about tire quality? Just want to be safe.

Never heard of that brand. At they STs, or LTs? The issues seem to be with TowMax brand ST 15" tires. I've seen a few posts with 13" and 14" blowouts, but the overwhelming majority of problems are with the 15".

At every stop check the tires for bulges or anything that looks odd. Those are usually indicators that it's going to fail.

If they are STs make sure to keep under the 65mph rated limit. Make sure the tires have their full PSI stamped on the sidewall. Under-inflated tires are the single biggest reason for failure. Make sure to keep the entire trailer well under the GVWR.

Never heard of Tredit. From their website, the appear to be a distributor, not a manufacturer. I have the 15" TowMax tires for two years with over 1500 miles on them and haven't had an issue. If you feel the need to replace them, I believe most people are going with Maxxis. Amazon.com: maxxis trailer tires

Most of the posts related to tire problems are about powerking tow max tires.

There is much debate about the quality of tires and why, if at all, some tires seem to have a higher failure rate than others.

IMHO, and from some research, found that most tires appear to be engineerined and designed in one country, but produced from several large tire plants in China. Some big name brands are also made in China as well.

These same plants appear to private label and sell tires around the world, so it's hard to pin down what's what.

A few key rules to follow:

Understand the weight ratings of the tires and weight of your trailer. Don't push your luck by overloading weight limits ( stay well under ) ( trailer GVWR, minus tongue weight, divided by the number of tires. Compared to the weight ratings found on the side of your tires)

Set air pressure to the right level found on the side of your trailer. Keep a close eye on the air pressure. Check every day on your trip. ( cold )

Observe the speed ratings for ST tires (60 mph )

Inspect tires for signs of damage or sidewall bulging when you stop along the way.

These are all true no matter what type of tire you have.

I have the dreaded tow max tires and I am not rushing out to replace them

Just my .02

Michigan,

The Tredit tires are what are coming on new Jaycos. My 20MRB White Hawk also has them with the name Rainier. These tires are too new to say if they are goid or bad. You might consider buying a tire monitoring system instead of new tires.

I am going to be brave and at least give the new guy on the block a chance.

If you do buy new tires, the Maxxis are the best I have found. Went 6000 miles on them on the old rig last year with no problems.

The Tredit and Tow max tires are likely coming from the same place, just a different label

I wonder if Jayco is just buying lowest price, or changed to avoid the reputation that is growing with Tow Max.

Either way, I suspect that the end result will be the same

I'll go out on a limb and say that the change to the new brand is a little bit of both.

Tires

Tredit is the company that provides tires and rims to Jayco and many other rv manafacturers.. They must have developed a "house Brand". Time will tell how they hold up. I have dealt with them and Jayco on a defective rim and they stood behind their product even though it was slightly out of warranty. Here is a link, click on the tires icon for a list of what they sell.
