To cover or not to cover that is the Question

I am wondering how many people chose to buy one of those trailer cover that are featured in trailer mag and at CW, Do they really protect your roof. Also is there any other reason that you have chosen to use them besides the roof such as keeping out rodent or protecting from sun damage. Thanks

It's a personal choice.
The TT's are designed to hold up in the weather. Remove heavy snow.
I will tarp mine over the summer when stored outside. Tarp and some bungie cords.
My tarp hangs over the edges about 18", good airflow between tarp and roof.
The covers are open underneath so I don't think they prevent rodents. Keeps your TT clean.

Here's mine in storage, but same tarp I use in summer.

It really is a personal choice, I have ours covered with a Adco cover. Just opened it the other day and it hasn't done any damage to the finish. I want the trailer to look good for a long time

We covered ours this winter for the first time. I have had to get into the TT a couple of times and didn't see anything when I rolled up the side, just looked clean. If there is anything significant when I uncover it for the season, I will post what I find. Won't do that until next month most likely.

Hello, I have had a 2007 R-vision trailsport well for six years. I just traded it for a 2013 Eagle. I have kept my trailsport covered every winter since I owned it, also keep the tires covered that very important. When I would take my trailer out everyone thought it was newer then it was. I believe it protects it from the UV rays, bird poop, acid rain and what ever else mother nature throws at it. Now my new Eagle is sitting next to my house with a breatable cover purchsed from my rv dealer same as my old one. I have not uncovered it yet and I feel better with it covered. I do plan on giving the camper a good waxing, like I did my old one, every year. Not looking foward to it but I feel it should be done. Hopes this helps any questions just ask good luck.

I cover mine as well for all the reasons Donedroolin stated. I have the Adco cover that has vents right under the roof line to help with air circulation. One of the keys to covering is don't make it too tight. Zippered front panels for easy access. Like Doug said, it's a personal preference. Plus, mine was included in the "deal". I think UV rays are the most consistent form of damage, so why not have it covered half the year.

We cover ours in the winter, they may be designed to be "outside" but anything you can do to keep driving rain and/or snow out is a good thing IMO. Not to mention keeping UV exposure reduced.
Definitely get one with zippered panels.

My TT is going through it's first winter and we used the Adco cover as well.

I'm anxious to see what it looks like again!

We have a Adco cover as well. This is the 3rd winter and it is still in great condition. I check the inside a couple times each winter and it is in perfect condition. Well worth the money.

I keep mine covered when not in use to keep the sun off and to keep it clean.

Re: To cover or not to cover that is the Question

If you do choose to cover your camper make sure you rodent proof your vents, especially the fridge. A couple of years ago I had mine covered and forgot to shove rolled up chicken wire in the under part of the vent and I believe that's where they got in. There were droppings on the roof and the only way to get up there is crawling up the cover.

I bought the Camco mesh fridge vent covers to keep the mud daubers out, never thought about mice coming through there while under cover but it makes sense. Lots of people with mouse problems, thanks for the added info. Next year, I think I'm going to shrink wrap it, cover it in concrete, then a layer of titanium, then a radio active shroud to keep them out. Or maybe I'll employ a cat. LOL

I covered to keep leaves, bird dropping uv and as much dirt as possible off the tt. Cover comes off and it's looking good.
