Toilet Paper
Hi All,
What is the best toilet paper to use? That you don't have to pay an arm and leg for.

I buy Scott toilet paper at Wal-Mart. It states on the package that it's safe for RVs.

Two words - Charmin Basic. Strong, soft, thick single ply, septic tank friendly, and inexpensive. Says nothing about RVs on the package but it causes no problems with mine.

If your a Costco member their Kirkland brand is good for holding tanks... stay away from using the RV stuff it is like using sandpaper... Any TP that says on the packaging that it is septic safe is good to use..
ps you know to leave the valve on the black tank shut till the tank is full right?

Toilet Paper
A way to test any toilet paper is to take a couple of sheets and put them in a glass jar full of water and shake it a couple of times. If it quickly dissolves it is safe to use in camper. Try it with what you use then try a kleenex and see the difference. We use the stuff from walmart.

We pick up a case of POM from Sam's Club at the beginning of the season, I do believe the box says that it is septic and Rv safe.

X3 ...... and on the single-ply from Walmart.
IMO a toilet paper stating it's septic safe doesn't mean it's good for an RV black tank system...., the two systems work differently. A septic system holds the toilet paper for a much longer period of time at the bottom of the tank allowing bacteria to dissolve it over time.
Even using lots of water and a chemical some 2-ply/3-ply toilet paper can still be left behind and bond to the black tank walls like cement (unfortunately seen it happen).
I found using a black tank flush system after each dump helps minimize any size "ply" toilet paper (or solids) from being left behind to "bond".

We use Scott's Rapid Dissolve, purchased from Walmart. Seems to work fine.

Any paper that is marked "septic safe" will work fine. Put a few sheets in a clear glass and it should dissolve with a few stirs. If it does, it will work fine in your holding tank.

We use Scotts Rapid Dissolve also. I agree that a wand to help spray off the sides of black tank is useful. It's amazing how much more comes out when we use this. We have that clear pipe attachment on our hose.
