Towing with 1/2 ton

I'll just say this.

I have a 2013 RAM 1500 with the 3.55 gears. My truck is rated for 8600# tow MAX.

If my truck had the 3.92 gears, it would be rated to tow 10,100# MAX. That tells me that my truck will handle 10,000#, but it might make my transmission work a little harder with the 3.55 gears. I even had a RAM dealer tell me the same thing.

I have a 2017 Jay Flight 28BHBE rated at 6500# dry. It's actually little over 6700#. I have a E2 WDH, electric brake controller and I feel perfectly safe towing it. With proper WDH setup, truck and trailer sits level.

Take it for what it's worth. You either feel safe towing your trailer weight or you don't.

Remember, the weights on brochures and posted online for any model trailer WILL change when you actually get it physically on site. The same goes for the cargo and towing capacities of any TV. Brochures, online posting, even owners manuals will only give you a rough idea to begin your 'estimations' with. However the only way to be absolutely sure is:
On an RV, look at the yellow sticker (usually found on the roadside side and/or the screen door) for what the RV actually came in at leaving the manufacturer.
On a TV, look at the sticker in the door jam with shows the axle weights, and total cargo and passengers not to exceed weight.
Finally, with this information in hand, go to the scales.

If you want to play the generalities to narrow down your homework before you buy. Look to the advertised GVWR (gross) of the trailer you are looking at. Figure 15% of that weight for tongue weight. Now take that figure and with the weights you figure in cargo capacity of your truck.....

so for the 22FB.
Gross is 6500 multiply by 15% which equals 975 pounds. That is your 'estimated' max tongue weight.
Now according to your earlier post regarding the weight not to exceed from your door sticker of 1580.
1580 - 975 = 605 pounds - that means your WDH, passengers, fuel and other cargo in your truck cannot exceed 605 pounds.

For the 26bh
Gross 7580 multiply by 15% which equals 1137 pounds. That is your 'estimated' max tongue weight.
Now according to your earlier post regarding the weight not to exceed from your door sticker of 1580.
1580 - 1137 = 443 pounds - that means your WDH, passengers, fuel and other cargo in your truck cannot exceed 443 pounds.

Though when I researched the 26bh, I found a max weight of 7000.
Based on 7000
Gross 7000 multiply by 15% which equals 1050 pounds. That is your 'estimated' max tongue weight.
Now according to your earlier post regarding the weight not to exceed from your door sticker of 1580.
1580 - 1050 = 530 pounds - that means your WDH, passengers, fuel and other cargo in your truck cannot exceed 443 pounds.

Again these are high estimates provided by the brochures. Remember, if you added step bars or a tonneau cover or brush guard or any other accessory to your truck, the extra weight should be factored in and subtracted from your max cargo weight.
The best bet is to visit the scales with a full tank of gas and have the truck weighed.
