Towing with old iron.

Who else is towing a travel trailer with a 15+ year old truck? I've been towing with my 2001 F-150 since I rolled it off the dealer lot 15 years ago. I feel kind of out of place when I see so many people towing with late model trucks only a few years old. I guess it doesn't really matter since I still consider it my "new" truck! I always park it indoors, never drive it in the winter, and perform all routine maintenance. It is pretty much new with only 100,000 miles on it... LOL

I've only got about 105,000 miles. Only drive it in the summer towing the TT and Farmall's on my 18' utility trailer. The truck has some sort of trailer hitched to it 95% of the time. She's an old work horse! Funny when I look at the original window sticker I wonder what that money could buy today in a new truck, and the answer is "not much". LOL

14 Model years old. Just modified my 2003 F-350 chore truck to be a tow vehicle.

A shade under 135,000 miles.

Montblanc will have it's "Second Marriage" (can't call it a "maiden voyage" can we?) this weekend.

I was planning on keeping my current truck pretty much forever until I started towing 8000 lbs with it. My next truck will be my 'forever' truck. I'll tow with it till the wheels fall off.

Here's my "old iron". Purchased new in 2001. Upgraded Load Range "E" tires, upgraded shocks, Ford SuperDuty Transmission oil cooler mod, SCT Tuner with custom towing tune, Flowmaster exhaust, towing mirrors. Future mod this winter: 4:10 gears in preparation for towing a White Hawk 28 DSBH next spring.

We believe that newer isn't always better. Six year old Tundra with 99,000 on the clock. Previous 'Yota had 150,000 on her. I remember my younger years when I just got plain bored with my wheels. That doesn't happen much any more. If it ain't broke, don't replace it.

A Toyota with under 100K on it? Come back AFTER it's broken-in.

I actually like having one of the older trucks in the campground. It's almost like a badge of honor!

We replaced our old and gold 2001 GMC 2500HD (8.1/Allison) with a 2015 F350 Powerstroke last year. Great truck with low miles (about 77,000) but I was planning a cross country trip and just didn't trust the old iron although it was in great shape and probably would have been ok.

If GM still made the 2500 or 3500HD's with a big block gasser and the Allison trans, I would have bought another one instead of the diesel.

Our old truck was a 2004 Silverado, 5.3 V8, with 183,000 km (~114,000 miles). Had to get rid of it because the repairs started being more than the truck was worth -- a suspected blown head gasket. Too bad, it was a nice truck.
