Well, from what I see you are going to be cutting it close with those trailers. Whether you will be able to do it will depend on your loading habits. They both have GVWR of 6250 which means if you load to that capacity your tongue weight will be in excess of 800lbs. Once you add the weight of your battery, hitch, it's more like 900 which leaves you about 300lbs for people and gear in the vehicle. If you load light and keep your tongue weight down you might have some room for people.

First step is to load your truck with all occupants and cargo you would have for a trip, with full fuel, and go weigh it. Subtract that number from the GVWR of 7100 and that's the number you have to stay within for tongue weight. Remember that battery and hitch weight need to be considered, so leave an extra 100lbs for that. Trailer tongue weights should be around the 12 or 13% range, so do the math with your available tongue weight and that will give you a true max trailer weight limitation.

Bigger and Better Trailers

This year I purchased my first travel trailer. I was a little bit apprehensive about diving in whole hog. Some of my friends suggested I should try renting one for a trip and see how I liked it. After traveling in my new rig back from Middlebury Indiana (where I bought it) to Dallas Tx, a trip to Purtis Creek Lake in east Texas, and a trip to the coast in Galveston, I can honestly say my wife and I love it. Its been something I wished I had bought back when my kids were still living at home. Maybe I would have bought bigger, but I find the maneuverabilty of my 23MB is great. It has two very large bunks in the back for my grand-daughter. Yes, it sometimes feels a little cramped, but its just about all my wife and I can handle. I just hated to winterize and store it away for the year. But it's something to look forward to and I can't wait to Spring rolls around!

ruswms...we too looked at the 23MB (White Hawk version) and liked it lots but felt the need to have a little bigger trailer was why we initially went with the 25BHS. After going out in it we realized we wanted even larger...the extra 3 feet inside feels like 10 feet in the 28DSBH! The couch is nice and provides another area to sit (the murphy bed does this as well but in a smaller overall trailer).

We have rented over the last few years and finally decided it was time to own one and have logged 10 nights so far and 1,200 miles towing the two trailers. Had a blast so far and being in south Texas, we have 10+ months of camping season (could be year round honestly!).

Enjoy your 23MB and hope to see you out and about in Texas!

Kamakazi you'll be sorry! You are to close to your Durango TV GVWR 7100lbs. If you are on the flat and no wind it will pull it but you will not be happy. With wind it would be another story.......not good for engine and tranny. You need at least a Dodge half ton with 5.7 Hemi and tow capacity of 10,000 lbs.; even better is a RAM 2500 with a 6.4L Hemi then you have more tow capacity for in the future.

My situation was extremely similar. I bought a used 2011 X17Z which was matched perfectly to my 2011 Ram 1500. Went camping twice and determined it was way to small for a family of 5. Upgraded to a 2015 X23F which is the perfect size but nearly maxed out my truck so i traded it in for a 2012 Ram 2500 5.7 Hemi. That put me at 2 trailers in 3 months and 2 trucks in 7 months

Blue Deuce, since you live in South Texas, let me recommend the Jamaica Beach RV park in Galveston. Super nice with full hook-ups, miniature golf, swimming pool and right across the street is the surf. You can drive your truck right on the beach to fish, walk, and shell hunt. My wife and I went down the last week of October and had a blast. There is a truck that sells seafood tacos and shrimp gumbo just about 1/2 mile east toward Galveston at a car wash. Jamaica Beach is far less crowded than Galveston. Also just about a mile east toward Galveston is the Galveston State Park. I have the Texas Parks annual pass so my wife and I can fish and Kayak for free in there. Its 38.00 per night, but having all the amenities, we felt it was worth it.

ruswms...thanks for the suggestion, sounds much nicer than our recent trip. Like I said, decent enough but sure would be nice to have all the extras you described!

We'll have to check the weather and plan a trip in the coming weeks!

Congratulations,
We are on our 3 rd Jayco TT in 4 years. Sort of have 2 foot idust. We traded our first 22FB on a 24FBS after 5 months (more length and had the slide).
In 2014 we saw new 266RKS Eagle and knew it was what we felt was missing in the 24FBS.
You only get one chance at this life so go it.

The stability of your tow vehicle on a trailer 26 feet long, 29 feet bumper to hitch...not something I'd want to tow, even short distances.

Thats me though and really you need to look at the weights before deciding. Hitch weight, front and rear axle weights as well as GVWR and payload capacity. If everything is inside the numbers, then decide if you are comfortable and make a decision.

The numbers will tell the answer...
You need to consider the length of the TT and the wheel base of your TV. I had a van one time (Astro van) and the numbers were right but the length made the tail wagging the dog drama. Not fun. YMMV
