Trailer brake controller

Hoping to find everyone in good health after all the Christmas goodies. Now I have a question, the brake controller installed by the dealer under my truck dashboard should be disconnected when not in use?? Thank you guys for your feedback.

Yeah, just leave it in. Mine has the pigtail so you can unplug and dismount and toss it into a glove box or something, but I just leave mine alone. I'll probably take it out and stow it if I'm in a shady area. Don't want some fool breaking my window to get at the thing...

Thank you guys for your responds. My concern is about the actual controller to get an excessive use, I use my truck to go to work and everything else that comes up.

I've never heard of a break controller wearing out. I would be more concerned with breaking/bending a pin from frequent connect/disconnect. Mine had been installed and never disconnected in 3 years -- My dads is likely 10 years old.

You have nothing to worry about.

Just for the record, mine has been installed in my truck since two weeks after I got it, which was Jan 2004. Never been unhooked, and no problems to date.
