Trailer Winterized

I'm sure I'll need one, ours will be outside, the more protection I can give it the better I'll feel. That 8 month quote made me sad... I'll be shooting for 6 months.

No that is why you turn the valves to bypass the hot water tank, you don't want antifreeze in there. As long as you pull the drain plug on it any water in there can freeze and expand and not hurt anything. I do crack the two bypass valves just quickly to run a little bit of antifreeze back thru that little bit of line.


How about disconnecting the shower and the outside shower so you don't have to fill them with antifreeze?

You could do that but you need to get antifreeze up to the showers starting point, tub one would work ok that way I guess but the outside shower should have water line running in the trailer to the shower, if you just disconnect the shower that line will still have water in it. Just as easy to open the two taps on the outside one and pull the plunger on the inside one until the pink stuff comes out

When draining the water heater, it will drain faster if you open the top valve to let in the air. Then close it when it's finished draining.

I am going to a great CG for Columbus Day but I really wanted to go to a different one where I had full hookups. The one I settled for only has AC/water. The full hookup CG actually makes you leave by 12 on Columbus Day. I would have booked that one if they at east let you stay till Monday evening, but since they want you out by 12 I said no thanks.

Mine says RV pumbing anti-freeze is pink and says non-toxic 50 below celsius.

No RV antifreeze yet, for us. We are planning a three week trip to Tennessee for later in the month. I remember one year we were camping on Thanksgiving.

I leave my water heater tank plug out for the winter. As I drive to the storage area, all the water will slosh out. I also leave the fresh water drain valves open, for the same reason.

I use to use the air compresser for blowing out the lines until I read the instructions for the toliet in the trailer that we use to have. It said not to do it. And silly me was wondering why I had to replace valves all the time. So...read the directions.

I clean out the gray/black water tanks before storage. I use Pine-Sol, or something like that, fill the tanks about half full, drive to the state park, and dump the tanks. Good and clean for next year.

Yeah we went camping in January, the Winter was unusually mild. With regards to our Northern friends, just pulling your chains, I realize it can get mighty cold up there hence the need to winterize. It used to here, I can remember when the bay and creeks were froze over for a month at a time and ice breakers had to be used to get bay commerce going. But not lately.

For more winterizing tips visit the winterizing sticky thread in the Jayco chat forum. Its really a piece of cake to winterize and from last years poll results an overwhelming majority of replying JOF members do it themselves.

Sorry for your loss. It's like saying good by to a dear family member for a few months. I keep mine in the yard so it feels even longer. I am going to do winterizing in Nov here. Worst case I will blow out the lines with air if it's going to get real cold ahead of that. I camp right through Halloween here.

If I'm moving it's going to be a little further south of you, might as well extend it to 12 months a year. Lol

Pinery proviincial park is two hours from me and its open all year for camping. I met a camper there this spring who had a trailer but tent camps in the winter. They plow the main park roads but not the campsite roads. He said he was the only camper there one time.

We have three more planned trips yet this year. Once Halloween is here, we will have to be prepared for a quick winterizing.

I was reading my owners manual and it states either the RV antifreeze way or the air compressor way. Both appear to be a sufficient way of getting the same result.

Quick question...do you leave a little water in the toilet to keep the seals from drying out? If so, do you put a little antifreeze in with the water?

Not water that will freeze. Yes a little antifreeze.

I use my air compressor first then fill with antifreeze, I get away with about a gallon and a half.
