The old 4-speed auto makes the engine work pretty hard under load, but she still gets the job done. Our current trailer is a 2012 Prime Time Tracer 2670 BHS which weighs in at about 5,400 lbs. Going up another 1,000 lbs. to a White Hawk has me a little concerned. I did install good LT Load Range E tires and have upgraded trans cooling, etc. Truck only has 100,000 miles on it and is in beautiful physical and mechanical shape. I would still be under my GCWR and GVWR.
Sounds like a solid tow vehicle, one you've got plenty of experience with. What are the truck's max towing, payload and tongue weight numbers? Your tongue weight with the 28DSBH is going to be between 900 and 1,000 lbs. Mine is about 950 lbs when my trailer is fully loaded for camping (about 7,100 lbs.). I went with just one house battery and two 20 lb propane tanks to save tongue weight. I also went with the Andersen WD hitch, which is just 53 lbs, compared to something like the ProPride which weighs about 150 lbs.. If I had a 3/4 ton TV I wouldn't have had to manage tongue weight as carefully. With a 1/2 ton, it usually comes down to max payload and tongue weight before max tow weight or GCWR. But if your truck would be good on GVWR with a tongue weight as I described, sounds like you're in good shape.

Can I ask which LT tires you went with and if you're happy with them? Still shopping around...

BTW, your current trailer seems pretty sweet!

I think my truck would be good with GVWR with that tongue weight. The GVWR for the truck per the door sticker is 6,300 lbs. It is only 2 people in the truck ever and I don't carry much in the bed, a portable grill, some small plastic tables, small toolbox (a few screw drivers, wrenches, etc.), and some folding chairs. We have to take 2 vehicles when we go camping so the other vehicle takes a lot of our supplies. There is a weigh station at the truck stop down the road that I need to take my current combination and see how that pans out for weight..

As for the LT tires, I went with BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A, Load Range E. This is my second year with them and they have been excellent! I wanted a more aggressive, but not too aggressive tread and these are perfect. Wear has been even and they aren't noisy. They made a big difference with sway and mushiness with my truck while towing. The truck is much more steady now. I only air them up to about 45 psi, this seems to give the most "tread footprint". When I aired any higher, less tread would make contact with the road. Still at 45 psi, the tires make a more stable ride simply because the tire sidewalls are stiffer than P-rated tires. I would highly recommend them.

The Tracer is a decent trailer, but we found that the layout doesn't fit all our needs. We traded in our 2007 Jayco 27BH for this Tracer because the Tracer had a big slide and only weighed about 500-600 lbs. more. We quickly found out that the Tracer didn't have as much storage as our old Jayco and the kids don't like the small skinny bunks. I'm also not too comfortable with the laminated floor (instead of plywood). Seems a bit more spongy to me. But I do like the laminated sides and aluminum framing (something that has also attracted me to the Whitehawk). Another plus to the Tracer is they put all the water connections in a nice plastic cabinet in the front storage area. All the fittings are out of the sun therefore they never get brittle and break. Nice feature.

Does your 7,100 lbs. loaded include water? I like to travel dry, unless I know i'm going somewhere with questionable or lack of water, which isn't too often. Otherwise, I just fill up at the campground.

No water, we only travel dry, other than a few gallons on board for toilet flushes if needed on a longer trip.

Thanks for the LT tire info!

Your Tracer looks a lot like our old Rockwood bunk house. It had the skinny bunks too which was fine when the kids were little. We upgraded to the 28dsbh last fall and tow with our F150. Here's our setup

Nukeneck, that's a nice pairing, similar to ours in a lot of ways (see below). BTW, where was that photo taken? Beautiful country!

Thanks Mikey, the picture was taken in Gardnerville, Nevada which is just south of Carson City. You are looking at the Pine Nut range in the background (Southeast). We are about 25 minutes east of South Lake Tahoe on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada's. (which are to the right of my setup)

My wife is a marketing manager for the company whose property we are on. Don't let the appearance of a vehicle in distress fool you, truck and trailer are just fine. She was doing a photo shoot to display their safety products (Cones, LED flares) for their website.

Parchment paper works great in the lense of the light. Since they are 12v. There is no heat. You can install it in layers to cut down in the light. I have up to 5-6 in mine depending where they are located.
