Under belly insulation. ...joke

While I was flushing my black tank on my 2015 338RETS, I noticed some water dripping out of the plastic underbelly. So I turned off the water and pulled part of the plastic under belly down to investigate. At first I was concerned there would be a lot of insulation I would have to mess with. Well for those that have never pulled theirs down, here's how much insulation they put under there. One small piece between the under belly and the tank. I am sure it does a lot ...... yeah right !!! Although I did notice under the black liner between bottom of floor and frame has insulation in there, but what does that do for the tank? I don't even see anywhere where the heat from the heater would go in the under belt to keep them from freezing.

Did you contact Jayco and ask them about it? What was their response?

No, I have not contacted them. I discovered thiso within the last hour. My camper is no longer under warranty as I bought it used. I did discover the source of my water leak though. Where the water line screws onto the black tank flush fitting (at the tank), it was loose as all get out. Tightened it up by hand and turned the water on. It backed ofby a little bit again when under pressure. So I tightened even more by hand this time and discovered the bottom screw on the black tank fitting is dribbling a little water. Nothing a little silicone sealant on the threads won't fix I am sure.

Thats the same as mine was. Luckily we live in south east Texas and don't have to worry about freezing to much.

They only mention the use of the "flex foil" no other insulation. The heat is usually directed out of holes in the bottom of the main duct work running under the floor.

Perhaps I just kind of assumed, seeing how they advertise the climate shield down to whatever temp and that your tanks won't freeze. I looked for anywhere the heat would be able to vent into there to keep them from freezing and couldn't find anything. But then again I didn't pull the entire under belly down. I could be wrong

On most fifth wheels, the under storage compartment is warmed by a duct into the compartment usually right on the main duct. The compartment is open to the tanks and also has vents under the stairs that allow air to circulate from the main cabin.

It tickles me to see a fifth wheel in winter or summer with the front storage compartments propped open. I guess they don't realize that all their heat or cold from inside is escaping.
