Upgraded TV, next steps?

So I upgraded the TV from a RAM 1500 5.7 to the 2500 with the 6.4
first outing scheduled for 2 weeks from now

We have an Equalizer WHD with the 2" shank. The 2500 sits 4-5" higher than the 1500, so we need to drop the ball. If I can use the 2" to 2 1/2" adapter and the height works out, I was hoping not to have to upgrade to the 2 1/2" shank.
Is this a reasonable approach?

Thanks

Yes. My neighbor upgraded from a Tundra to a Ram 2500 diesel and has the Equalizer hitch. We had to reverse the shank and drop the ball but it worked out great.

Yes, you can use the hitch adapter...but.
I also have an Equalizer hitch and I found it a little difficult, but not impossible, to set the angle of the ball because there is too much movement between the hitch, adapter, and shank.
I just didn't like the hassle of the adapter and the extra movement it creates. After three trips I ordered a 2 1/2" shank and im much happier now.

Try the adapter and see how you like it. ...just don't misplace it.

We use the adapter. It works and hasn't caused me any issues. Mine fits pretty tightly. We have the same WDH.

No issues using the adapter on a factory ram hitch with an equalizer 2" shank. Did a similar switch from half ton a year ago and just had to lower the ball and that was that.

It is perfectly fine to use the adapter. Worst case is you might have a little more slop in the connection. There is a bit of clearance space between the 2.5" receiver and the 2" adapter and a bit more clearance space between the 2" adapter and the shank. Most of the slop will be in the up down motion as it pivots a bit on the pin. It is perfectly fine though and doesn't limit your towing rating. Well I guess that isn't quite true. I think those adapters might weigh 1 lb or a little less and the adapter will count against your cargo capacity.... However a 2.5" shank is probably heavier than a 2" one...
