used batteries, garbage

Just checked our new to us 2013 Jay Flight batteries . Wow what crap-
the dealer must have not even checked them as long as they held a charge they were fine with them. The connections are corroded and need to be cleaned.
I'm waiting for a dry day and will yank them and replace with new interstate batteries from Costco. Want to start off with reliable batteries even thou we normally camp at hook -up parks.
Same happened to our last trailer when we purchased used. I think their motive is to get it off the lot in working order then let you deal with it from there.

I`m still using the original group 24 Interstate battery installed by the dealer 6+ years ago. I keep it plugged in when not using the TT. But I realize I will soon need a new one.

I'm partial to Motorcraft batteries myself. For the most part, there's only 3 major manufacturers of batteries. Delphi, Johnson Controls (they do most) and Exide. So chances are, whatever battery you choose, may be just like the one you took out. Just a different label.

Maybe a good cleaning and keep on the monthly top off routine will be best for now.

My oe batteries were just run of the mill but did fine for 4 years until I let them go completely discharged for a month at the dealers lot. I purchased some from O'reilly's and they are fine. Just basic 36 month grp 24's.

Keeping them clean and fully charged is the key to longest life.......

Most people (dealers included) don't realize that batteries should not be discharged below 50%. Whenever I take my 5er in for service I have to tell them to disconnect the batteries cuz once I didn't tell them and a few weeks later, when I came to pick it up, the battery was dead.
