Using Scissor Jacks that are not attached to the frame

I was considering the use of 4 scissor jacks to help steady up our 330RSTS. Even with the stock power stabilizers and a couple of Valterra RV Stabilizers, I want to see if I can get it any more stable with scissor jacks. So right now, until I know for sure, I don't want to go to the extent of permanently attaching them. So I was wondering if anyone uses scissor jacks on their TT's without having them screwed/bolted/welded to their frame?

These were the ones I am considering. I chose these because of their 30" height (frame is about 20" off the ground), 5000# rating (trailer scales out when loaded just under 11,000#) and have a generous top plate that would ensure a wide contact point to the frame.

https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Jac...on/JSC-30.html

I was thinking of putting two about a foot or two behind the wheels and 2 about mid way between the wheels and front of the trailer. Between those, the tongue jack, and the stock power stabilizers, I can eliminate the Valterra RV stabilizers (unless I put one right under the stairs for even more support at that point). It also might allow me to do some very minor level adjustments (an inch or so) side to side if I am not where I want to be once the slides are extended.

So, thoughts, suggestions, etc? Does anyone already use scissor jacks in this fashion with their trailers without having them screwed/bolted/welded to the frame?

I'm considering something very similar, so I'm interested in what the masses and those with specific experience have to say about it.

The only difference is I wasn't going to hesitate to permanently attach them from the get-go. Perhaps a little "jumping in with both feet"?

Yeah, I get that. But for me, I am just not keen on punching holes in the brand new frame if it is something I am not going to keep using in the long run.

You could rig a saddle on top of the jack (a couple of pieces of angle iron bolted to the top plate of the jack would work) to keep it from slipping when using it. Then you could try it for a while so you can decide if you want to blot it to the frame.

You could avoid drilling holes in the frame by using one or two pieces of plate bolted to each side of the top plate of the jack to clamp it to the frame flanges.

Here's what I did to my 30' travel trailer, it had the electric stabilizers, I never did like them and when the motor died, I replaced them with 6 scissor jacks and the 6 of the BAL lock arm stabilizers. You might try something like the BAL lock arms, the JT Strongarms or the Steadyfast system before you go adding a bunch of scissor jacks. If you do add scissor jacks, it might only take 2,right in the middle of the trailer, or near the door.

I just installed these last week...

https://www.amazon.com/Husky-76862-S.../dp/B005J1UK2I

Very easy installation and they came with self tapping bolts. I placed them just in front of the main door and on the opposite side. It makes a world of difference, much more stable. I'm not worried about the four holes on each I made in the frame, but if you are, welding is always an option.

If I am going to attach them, I would probably drill and bolt them on in lieu of just screws or welding.

I placed one on each corner (next to the original power stabilizers that are merely usless) and the other two I placed about a foot in front of the front wheels

I did that on my old TT. I placed a jack by the front wheels to minimize the movement of the suspension. I too was leery of drilling or welding the frame. I did that for a year with no issues. I found it really helped cut down on the bounciness. A good location to put one, is under the entry step

I bolted 2 of these 2-1/2 Ton Trailer Stabilizer Jack amidship on our 34' Eagle and lots cheaper than E-trailer. The help a lot but there is still a little movement because the bottom of the I-frame flexes. I also use 2 of these Camco 48860 Telescopic Stabilizing Jack Camper Trailer | eBay [better price on amazon] and they seem to help even better. We also use a step saver which helps when people are entering/leaving the trailer.
