Watch out for Spring Trees!

Well after 5 months of not-so-patiently waiting for winter to end so that we could use our (new to us) TT we finally got in our first trip.

Power, water, stove, oven, Fan, heat, fridge, levelling - thanks to the expertise learned from this and other sites everything worked perfect! Let me tell you after spending my entire life sleeping on the ground [tents] it was an unbelievable experience!

HERE is the only issue which we had. I hope somebody, prolly a newbie like me, can learn from it: Spring Trees drop casings! We purposefully picked the site with tree coverage to give us shade. Unfortunately whichever kind of deciduous tree it was dropped sap-sticky casings all over the ground, the TT, the TV. They got stuck to our shoes and came into the TT and TV. Also once crushed the casings smelled. Since we were only there for two nights we didn't bother moving but man we spent some time cleaning after wards. We had to wash our runners and scrub all of our shoes with cleaning solution to get the sap off.

So the first trip was very successful - everything worked like it should. As a bonus I golfed the best game of my life that weekend. The way I see it the casings weren't a bad thing as we also learned an invaluable lesson about spring camping!

Why did we spend so long sleeping on the ground????

Don't forget to wash the roof and sides. That sticky stuff will attract leaves and dirt also.

I've never heard of a Spring Tree.

That sounds just like our trip last weekend. These were cottonwood trees and they dropped seed that were also sticky. I thought they only dropped the cotton seeds but guess not. They stuck to everything and we too dragged them into the camper. The whole family was about 1" taller when we got home because of the seeds stuck to our shoes. Hubby did go up on the roof and got them all off. Then our other learning experience was to leave the lights off in the camper when evening rolls around. We had over 100 may flies in the camper. At least they were not the mosquitoes yet. Hopefully lesson learned.

Be sure and wash all the stickies off right away. I once had to have the top surface of a car repainted because of the sticky seeds. These had some type of chemical in them that went right through the paint to the primer. The car sat out in the heat with the seeds on it for several days before I noticed the seeds.
