Water heater usage question

I've had my Jayflight 26BHS for a couple years now, but I'm wondering if I could do something or not. When using a full hookup site, I was wondering if I could just turn on the electric water heater and leave it running for the duration of my stay. What does everyone do?

Thanks for any advice.

That is indeed what I do in my current unit and have in my past 2 Class C's. Only time an issue was with past unit's 30-amp limitations in hot weather with heavy A/C use. Sometimes had to shut off the water heater if I needed to use the microwave when A/C was running.

Yep we do it all the time. I'm paying for electricity so I'm gonna use it. Watch your amps [if your 30 amp service] because if your water heater is on electric and the fridge is on electric and the AC is on you might trip the breaker if you try to use the microwave.

When we first got our new TT, we kept the electric part of the water heater on all the time. Now we just turn it on about 15 minutes before we need hot water especially in the summer when the AC is on and the draw is high.

All the time for me too. Never use the LP. Have had AC on no problem.

I leave it on unless I am in a 30a site and need to conserve current for something else. It's easy to switch it to either and some will allow both to operate at the same time to speed recovery.

I make sure it works by testing it from time to time but it's on electric most of the time.

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like I can leave it on. I've been using LP to heat up the water before use, but I'll switch over to electric now. I'll make sure to watch the power draw, but I think I'll be fine.

I turn it on about 15 min before I need it and then off after the dishes are done, same with shower. Here's a chart for you to go by.

we leave the electric water heater on all the time. We have a 30 amp setup, I do not recall ever having an issue with it running and the AC.

Most of the time you probably wouldn't have a problem. You might have a problem if the WH, Micro, Fridge, and AC happened to be on at the same time.

It's probably a rare time when all the right combinations are drawing power at the same time.

I switch mine and off depending on what else I am using. If I want to use my fireplace, I have a switch that you have to flip that wont allow the water heater to work, at least on electric. You have to pick one or the other. In the mornings when the coffee maker is on, I also shut it off. The water will stay hot for a looong time anyway so unless you are showering, no need for it to be on.

We normally leave it on all the time while on shore power but are rethinking it. We've just started turning it on about 10 minutes before a shower while on propane and then turning it off so it's part of our routine now.

Last summer we were staying at a campground that was a bit older. After we set up and had everything the way we usually have it, the breaker popped -- and we weren't doing anything out of the ordinary. We reset the breaker at the pedestal and were going to go tell the campground office about it when we saw a sign posted in the campground saying that if this happens, turn the water heater to propane and that will solve the problem. It was almost as if they read our minds, so that's what we did for the duration of our stay.

FWIW, whether the water heater is on electric or propane, we leave it turned on all the time while camping. The extra cost in propane is nothing compared to the price I pay if there's no hot water for DW's morning shower....

I hear ya but I solved the problem by turning the water heater on when I make the coffee first thing in the morning. If I know she isn't showering until later, I turn it on about 10 minutes before. It's amazing how quickly it heats up.
