water pump

When you turn on the water pump for onboard water should the pump stop vibrating if nothing is running?

I know in my trailer that once the system is pressurized then the pump stop's vibrating/pumping.

If it's still vibrating then that means the pump is still working and pumping the water somewhere

X2. If you continue to hear/feel the pump running more than a few seconds, either you are out of water in FW tank, there is a leak or open faucet somewhere, or the diaphragm inside the pump is bad, as mine was last summer. I contacted Shur-Flo directly, and they said I needed a new rubber diaphragm, available for about 15 bucks. Installed my self with instructions in kit in about 30 minutes, and that cured the problem.

Thanks for the replies, I have some water in the fresh water tank, all faucets closed and it won't stop running, guess it's back to the dealer AGAIN, still under warranty

It should not be running if no faucets are open. Once, I forgot to bypass the water heater and finally figured it was pumping water into the empty water heater.

I'm not sure what type rig you have.

Agree. Be sure this is not the case before you go back to the dealer. It may take a couple of minutes to fill up your hot water tank if it is empty. We usually drain everything if we're not going to go camping for a few weeks, and I always forget how long it takes the pump to run to refill the hot water tank.

Again, a faulty rubber diaphragm inside my pump caused it to continuously run, even with water in the tank and no open valves. It just could not get pressure up enough to cut off the pump. A new self-installed diaphragm cured the problem and saved a trip to the dealer.

Air will cause this problem. Open a tap and run the pump till the air is out.

If the water lines have air in them, the pump will run until the air is compressed or you open the faucets to let the air escape. My pump runds for 10 minutes or more if the lines are empty and the cold water heater is also empty.

Thanks for the replies, I never drain the hot water heater because I take my trailer out every month for about a week at a time. The pump did start acting normally again so maybe I just had air get into the line somehow.
