Hi All

But it's been smoked in.

We have some work to do to (mostly) rid it of smoke smell.
We plan on scrubbing all the surfaces with a citrus based cleaner and have the carpet in the bed area and valances professionally cleaned for starters.

Are ion generators really effective?

Any advice is welcome.

What you have planned might be enough.
A little Frebreeze and you might be good to go.
The professionals you're dealing with probably also have leads on the right stuff to eliminate smoke smell.
I am sure this is an important part of their business.

Ionization works well.

Arm and Hammer carpet sprinkles are great for smells. You might want to sprinkle that on carpets and cushions from your dinette and couch/chairs. Let it sit for 30 minutes or so and then vacuum with upholstery extensions. Cans of open coffee are also great for eliminating odors.

We scrubbed all her hard surfaces inside and out with a vinegar/citrus solution cleaned the carpet, valances, dinette cushions and the sofa and aired her out now we can hardly smell anything. A bit more time and I think we will never notice it.

Keep it up, a couple more camping trips and cleaning sessions and that smoke smell will be a thing of the past!
