Weight distributing bars?

How much higher should the weight rating be on the weight distributing bars compared to the hitch weight of your trailer?

IMO the WDH bars should be looked at the same way you would look at the leaf springs on the rear axle of your truck. They perform a similar function of support. Given that comparison, you can imagine a stiff rear-end suspension compared to a soft suspension.

On mine the tongue weight could be as much as 1400 pounds ... I have 1200 pound bars and I think they are plenty... depends on how much you need to distribute weight back to front of vehicle... I have a one ton and I find not pulling my chains quite as tight actually helps my ride.
