Fastway e2 1000/10,000. Friction style sway control and weight distribution. Easy to install and set up myself. Performs fine for considerably less money than many others.

I did a lot of research before I purchased a WDH. As this was our first TT we were not sure long term if we would be steady TT campers, or if we would want to move up in size, so cost was part of my thought process.
After some research and cost comparisons I purchased a 800lb Curt WDH with a seperate sway control. Ordered online at Canadianhitches.ca and it was shipped for free for a cost of $330 CAN inc. HST.
Performed well on the road and I am happy with the system.

Hey all - I am a newbie when it comes to pulling something behind my minivan. I definitely need to make some adjustments to the van because the back end definitely sags. I've ordered a Timbren SES kit which I know will help, but I think a WDH is a must as well.

But I need an economical solution for now. What would you guys need to make a recommendation? My car's GVWR is 5,9XX lbs. My Jay Feather SLX 16XRB has a dry weight of ~2,900 lbs, with a max weight of 3,500. The cars towing capacity is 3,500 lbs... Tongue weight max is 350.

Thoughts?

I pulled an Antigua 19' hybrid with a 2001 Ford Windstar. A WD hitch is an absolute must, in fact my dealer told me that he wouldn't sell me the trailer without one, he would rather lose a sale than a customer. Anyway, I put on a Reese trunion style WD hitch with friction sway control and the combination was AWESOME! It was perfectly setup, and the low center of gravity with the van it was a perfect combination.

I got her home with just a friction control swaybar, knowing that I was ordering the Timbren. So many varying opinions on the need for WDH, but I think I agree it is a must, even though I drove 200 miles without one.

I have the Reese Dual Cam system but I only have 800lb bar as recommended and installed by the dealer. I questioned several times on several occasions if the 800lb bars were adequate since my 29bhs tongue weight is 760 or 780 dry. I was assured this was the correct setup. I have sway that is manageable but not always great but the truck sits pretty level. Would the heavier bars help sway? I ask here since most of you mention you have 1200lb bars.

towing with a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi, 20 rims, 3.92 gears and factory tow package.

We had a Blue Ox on our first TT that went with it. Got a ProPride for the Eagle. It didn't work out due to the shape of the TT's front. Sure would like to sell it. The Equalizer works very well and is easy to use.

I have the EAZ Lift with 1000 lb bars and dual friction sway bars. It was the one installed by the dealer so I am certain it isn't top of the line. They also put on a Tekonsha Voyager brake controller that I am already thinking about changing out the the P2 or P3. My biggest issue being less than a month old owning a truck and a trailer, I wouldn't know a good hitch from a bad hitch if it fell on my foot.

Unfortunately most RV dealerships don't know how to size and/or adjust a conventional WDH correctly, especially a Reese HP Dual Cam WDH like you and I have. When a RV dealer tech does make the proper WDH adjustments, the adjustments are only good if one plans on towing an empty TV and TT......, the dealership fails to inform customers that once their TV and TT combination is "loaded" for camping the WDH will have to be check again for adjustment, ideally at a CAT scale.

Your 2011 G2 29BHS has a published UVW of 5,475lbs, GVWR of 7,700lbs, dry hitch weight of 715lbs, and is 30'-6" long. An actual moderately loaded 29BHS would weigh around 6,700lbs (easily heavier depending on your personal loading habits). At 6,700lbs one would want a loaded tongue weight of 871lbs to 1,005lbs (13% to 15% of 6,700lbs)......, so your 800lb WDH isn't adequate. IMO a set of 1,200lb spring bars would be a good investment.

WDH spring bars alone don't actually prevent/control sway, but a proper rated WDH spring bar will enhance the TV's handling of the TT under loaded conditions. Since you have the Reese HP Dual Cam WDH (integrated sway control), your HP Dual Cam sway control feature will be much more effective with the 1,200lb rated spring bars with a loaded tongue weight well above 800lbs.

If you would like further detail on adjusting a Reese HP Dual Cam WDH, feel free to start a new thread over in the "Towing and Tow Vehicles" forum with any specific questions.

A brief visit to a CAT scale with your loaded TV/TT combination will tell you a wealth of information (TT weight, tongue weight, confirm WDH sized/adjusted correctly, axle weights, TV within weight limits, etc.). The following JOF link is CAT scale "how to" weigh a TV/TT combination and breakdown the data: http://www.jaycoowners.com/showthrea...igh-Your-tt-tv

Under normal towing conditions one shouldn't "have sway that is manageable"..., a sway condition should be an extremely remote event that most never experience.

Guys, I'll get to reading all of the 90 some posts in due time, but just want to get opinions from those who have used them....

I just bought a 2014 Jay Flight 28BHBE (7042lbs dry and 700lbs dry hitch). On my previous RV I had a husky WD setup + a friction sway control... Now want something better. Looking here and there and I can't seem to find good reviews that compares the 3 main in the industry:

- Husky Centerline
- Reese Dual Cam with WDH
- Equal-I-Zer

I'll be going for a 1000lbs minimum capacity and would like to have a system that is:
- less noisy as possible (as road noises drive me crazy!!!)
- you can back up without disconnecting
- Gives great sway control (the friction system I have now was not the greatest....I found out that maybe my RV hitch weight was too small, so back end too heavy which enduced sway...but...)

Anyone used one model then the other?

I was leaning towards the Husky Centreline because of the active sway control as opposed to the ones that have a reactive control... and I don't really mind the "having to be in a 5degree to straight angle" to hook up.

Thanks

The Reese HP Dual Cam WDH (Reese Strait-Line WDH) has "pro-active" (not reactive) integrated sway control...., this is accomplished by the constant force of the WDH spring bar tail radius being applied over the Cam surface. With the constant force over the cam surface the Reese Dual Cam system is always working at keeping the TT towing in a straight line behind the TV.

Thanks.... Yes I just noticed the cams on the Reese systems.... Is it a noisy system with the chains?

.... no chain noise with the HP Dual Cam because the spring bar is the only component that moves, the Cam Arm and snap-up bracket chain are stationary even during TV turns. A little Vaseline (no grease) over the cam surface keeps that area quiet with the heavier tongue weights (1,200lbs plus), and some grease in the ball mount spring bar sockets just about eliminates all the noise.

I use the husky centerline and can't say enough good things about it. I think it's worth it's weight in gold with controlling Sway etc

Husky. Seems to work well, although I've only driven it home from the dealer (about 6 miles). Question: is it suppose to moan like that when you go around a corner?
