Weight distribution hitches

I have a 2008 Jayco 27BH. I have the standard bent bar weight distribution hitch with the typical friction trailer sway control. I haven't had any trouble yet. I am considering moving to the Reese Dual Cam Sway Control. What are others using and your experiences?

I have the Equal-i-zer system on our 25' Jayflight and 2006 Ford F150.
I have no experience with the Reese system so I can not comment on that system. The equal-i-zer system has performed very well for me and I doubt I will ever change to a different system.

We use a Hensley Arrow that totally eliminates sway. The new ProPride, an improved HA by the original designer of the Arrow, is now available. Both do an excellent job. From what I've read about the Reese DC and the Equal-I-Zer, both do a fine job living up to their reputations. Maybe others with those hitches will join in.

The first hitch installed on the new tt was a "Huskey" brand with the chains and separate sway bar. It did not work well for us (partly because it was not installed correctly at the Indiana facility). Our dealer replaced it with the Equalizer we had ordered with the trailer when we got back home to California. Wow! What a difference. We could drive up to 65mph in a 15ish mile side wind with no sway. The trucks sits more level with the new Equalizer. I like the four point sway system with the Equalizer.

Weight distribution hitches

I stopped by the local Camping World today to learn more about the dual cam system. Advised against it as they have heard that the drop arms can drag when passing over humps. I'll look into the other systems mentioned. Thank you for the input.

Is there any issues with the Equalizer making a loud noise. I have seen posts on other forums that say this has been a big problem and there is nothing that can be done ,but it does fade over time. I am thinking of getting it but wondered how it compares with the Reese.

Ditto Joe... Folks really brag on Sean's invention. He is a good guy as well.

I have used a Reese dual cam weight distribution hitch with a 27ft Jayco RLS and a 29ft Jayco G2 RLS with good results. The distribution bars are easy to insert into and remove from the hitch and they are easy to place over the cams prior to attaching the chains. Be aware that there can be a loud scraping or popping sound occasionally when the tow vehicle is turning--that is normal and does not damage the hitch assembly, the trailer or the tow vehicle.

I once had a weight distribution hitch on a travel trailer in the 1980s that used a friction pad to reduce trailer sway. I much prefer the Reese dual cam.

That being said, I would very much like to try out a Hensley Arrow. Testimonials are powerful but the cost is more than I am willing to invest without trying it out in high winds and at high speed. If it works as well as it is reported to work, it would be worth the investment for those of us who take long trips in windy conditions and who want to tow at posted speed limits up to 70-75 mph.

We had quite of a bit of noise and "popping" with our previous "chain" hitch, so we were used to errant hitch noises. There is also noise with our new Equalizer. I don't believe any more so than our previous hitches.

The equal-i-zer system is friction sway control, but there is a very easy cure for the little noise that may occur occassionally.

This lube last a long time and it does not take very much. I have had the same tube for over two years now. I clean and lube the system about every 4th weekend trip. No problems in two years.
As for the Reese system, I have not had one or used one, so I can not comment on their system.

Have you had a chance to actually weigh the tongue with the tt's front compartment/tanks/batteries loaded for travel? Our 900lb tongue wound up weighing out at just over 1000lbs. If we actually install an electric tongue jack, that will increase another 23+ lbs. We asked for the 1200/12k bars and are glad we did. Hope this helps some

Couldn't afford the Hensley or Propride with the cost of the new TT earlier this year so I went with the Reese dual cam. Once it was set up properly it was a pleasure. I believe you will need to do some adjusting with every system.

I can't imagine that you would need a equalizer bar with a F250.

Why are you wanting to switch? Are you having troubles with existing setup? I'm using a husky friction/chain setup now. I just pulled our new 324BDS (read big and heavy) with an F150 100 miles half interstate with a good crosswind and half Ozark mountains without any trouble. I think proper setup is key and just hate to see folks spend money on something if not needed.
If you want a new hitch for fun factor that's fine but might be more fun to spend on mods
Just my .02 cents

I’m currently towing a 2010 25rks with a 2010 F150 3.55 limited slip. I’m also using the 1000/10000 equalizer hitch. I was tempted to go with the 1200/12000 hitch but the salesman talked me out of it as he said he sells the 1000 and 25rks all the time with no complaints, and that I’d get a poor quality tow with the 1200/12000. I was sceptical but went with his advice as I couldn’t see any reason he’d mislead me on the hitch.

Haven’t towed very much as I only bought the trailer and hitch a month ago and I have no other towing experience. But it seems to tow fine. I’m going to raise the bars slightly on the next trip to try and level the trailer/truck a bit, but other than that minor adjustment, I think it is towing well. I get some sway in high winds but no complaints other than that.

Hope this helps, perhaps you can provide more info on your TT…any other 25rks owners out there that care to comment?
