We sold our old camper to a couple that has never owned a camper so I made a couple check list, one for hooking up to truck and getting ready, one for setting up once you get to the campground, one for packing up to head home, and what to do once you get back to storage, it really is a four step process and a lot to remember till you get the hang of it and know the camper inside and out

If you leave it at a seasonal site... put on that list to not leave your clothing behind when your leaving and won't be back for 4 weeks.

Do a google search for camping lists and rv setup lists. I keep both lists on my phone as well as my computer.
Here is a sample of my setup for the rv
SETTING UP
Verify side level
Set chocks
Remove hitch, wiring harness, chains from TT
Level front to back
Set stabilizers
Make sure faucets, etc are turned off
Hook up power
Hook up water
Make sure water heater is full
Turn on water heater
Turn on gas
Open all stove, bathroom, etc vents
Open can of my favorite beverage

My big one that always seems to get me on the final walk around is "make sure the antennae is down"!

2 items I've forgotten until I put them on my "Before leaving the campsite" list: Turn off the water heater and latch the stove hood vent cover.

I didn't put my complete list earlier, but here are a couple more items as well.
1. What Brownie and Whistler said
2. Check tire pressure
3. Check brake, turn signals
4. Close all windows
5. LOCK door
6. Make sure all inside cabinet doors are secure and all items are put away.
I DETEST having to pull into a gas station to fill up or get snacks while pulling the TT. If at all possible I make sure we have enough gas to get home without stopping. Make sure the kids have their snacks and drinks in the car.. I need to make sure I have my Dr. Pepper ready to go as well.
If we are going to a new place, my wife and I always try to scout out a truck stop or large gas station on the way so we will know where we can stop on the way back if we need to pull over for gas, etc..
These lists do seem long and complicated, but they work and after a few times you get the hang of it pretty easily.
Don't get cocky either.. Oh.. I've done this 5 - 10 times.. I don't need my list anymore... Yea.. well remember that when you are dragging your water hose or electrical cord down the road behind you... :-)

I have a couple lists too. Laminated and everything. Even with that, there are two things that always get missed: 1) the TV antenna (though I've never actually left with it up, I just forget until I'm in the truck ready to pull away), 2) and the range hood vent cover.
Invariably, I forget these two items whether they're on the list or not, I must have some sort of brain block about them...
So, I think I'm going to get a set of these: http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...et-of-10/66688

Thanks Brownie..
OH... I forgot a really good one...
Make sure you close your dump valves before you leave the dump station.. You will have a VERY angry VERY large man on a motorcycle wanting to do bad things to you...

Pulled into a rest stop in Michigan last week and parked beside another RV hauler. I noticed that neither his safety chains nor his break-a-away cable were connected to the truck!!!!! I kindly brought it to his attention and he commented "oh guess i forgot". Same as others here i have a checklist that i go through EVERY time i hook / unhook a trailer. Take your time...5 more minutes at hook up time may save your life or equipment down the road.

Definitely make sure your steps are up. I put reflective tape on all 3 sides not only for night vision, but also so you'll see it from the mirrors if you ever leave it down after a trip or pit stop. Safe travels and congrats!

Here's what we use with our 26BH. Yes, we use it point by point with EVERY departure.
tire pressure check (while AC is connected or generator is available)
stabilizers retracted
awning fully retracted
site cleared of chairs, rugs, trash, etc.
water hose disconnected and stowed
sewer hose disconnected and stowed
check TT to TV connections
pin and cotter pin in hitch receiver
electric cable attached
emergency brake switch connected
chains attached
pin and cotter in ball latch
pins in the sway bars at hitch
pins in the sway bars at rear
jack board(s) stowed in trailer
jack fully retracted
house battery connected
battery box secure
propane tank(s) on or off as appropriate for refrigerator
trailer mirrors installed on truck
30 amp electric cord stowed
surge protector stowed
vent for stove hood/fan closed
tire chocks removed and stowed
items secure in truck bed
all storage compartments closed locked
entry door closed, locked, and barred
check brake lights and turn signals
trailer steps folded in
Anderson levelers removed and stowed
We have a separate one for the inside stuff, but it's more specific to our trailer and the stuff in it, so I haven't copied it here.

#1 Item on my SETTING UP checklist. 24pt Bold RED font:
If camping w/o sewer hookup at site: MAKE SURE BLACK TANK VALVE IS CLOSED!!
One fateful trip last year - stopping at dump station when leaving the campground was a germophobe's worst nightmare when that dust cap was removed from the dump pipe on the trailer.
