What's up with my ice cream??
Everything in our freezer is like a rock....except the ice cream. Why won't the ice cream freeze?
We're eating the ice cream sandwiches out of a bowl with a spoon!

Ice Cream takes a colder temp to freeze hard then say water. This happened to us a few months ago when DW loaded the frig and freezer with warm food during a campout, plus the kids were in and out of it all the time so it never caught up and the ice cream was soft. Now I keep the drinks in a cooler outside so the kids do not stare into the frig with the door open which allows all the cold air to spill out.

The ice cream catastrophy happened to us on our first camping trip but when I got back someone suggested I install a Frig fan which is sold on Ebay for $15.00,I did this and on the second trip ice cream stayed hard, freezer pops froze in 3 hrs. and stayed hard, I also was able to lower my thermostat from 5 to 3 setting. You may also want to look into a fan for your frig, it helped mine out and it was a easy mod to do.

Yep - with my fan I have been able to keep ice cream along with my freezer pops. I do keep it on the bottom of the freezer - it is much colder down there.

I guess we have been lucky because ice cream has never been a problem for us. We are on setting 3 I believe.

I think the manual says the best place to keep ice cream is in the left rear corner of the freezer. That's where we kept ours and on level 3 . Outside temp is 90+. My fridge is in the slide out and only once have I heard the fan that's installed between the outside wall and the back of the fridge come on. I was really concerned about the efficiency of the fridge, being in the slide out with no roof vent. But so far it has worked great this summer and we have had some hot weather. Kudos to Jayco and Norcold. My last trailer had a Dometic in it. Worked great year after year for 15 years without a problem. It had trouble keeping ice cream hard but the interior space was better organized and it seemed like it could hold more than the Norcold. There were no settings on it. I like being able to change the settings on the Norcold.

You let your kids go camping with you????? THE HORROR... duct tape them in a closet, at home, so you can ENJOY the camping trip (yes I am Joking)

When you start the freezer, feel around occasionally and the area that gets cold first will probably be the coldest overall.
