What's with the bathroom register?

Our 320RLDS has a register on the wall in front of the commode, round, like the ac ceiling outlets, that blows forcefully and very hot air when the furnace is on. Can this be a blocked duct or something? If you don't keep the door propped open you just aren't going to heat the rest of the unit. Do any of you have a similar situation, or do we have a problem?

I haven't changed them yet on my new camper, but my last one I replaced all the floor registers with adjustable residential ones from Home Depot. Once the adjustable ones are installed, you can simple close the one in the bathroom and / or other areas to fine tune the heat distribution. There's a lot of choices to even spruce up the place too!

Mine has a floor register in the bathroom. It does get rather warm in there if the door stays shut.

Whoops, just realized you said round so I went and checked mine and it's round too! Have to do some digging to see if there's adjustable vents for round which are suitable for the floor.

edit: Looks like there are solutions here

Yes, there are adjustable round. My parents had that problem with one of their past TT, and my dad bought a round adjustable register. It has a little knob in the centre of it that you turn and it closes the damper. Works really well.

It would be easy enough to partially block it or replace it with an adjustable register, but there is so much force I'm a bit concerned with blocking it. I'll contact Jayco CS and ask before I monkey with it.

That's a good idea, please let us know what they say as I see one of those adjustable vents I linked to in my very near future :-)

Our new skylark has one too. Blows pretty good and keeps things warm.

If it's any consolation, our 11 year old Eagle uses the same round vent in our bathroom. Obviously, Jayco has been using this style of air duct register for long time now. Ours is located near the bottom of the wall that supports the bathtub. To be honest, we've never had an issue with it becomming too hot when the bathroom door is closed. But that may be because the furnace doesn't run very often due to the fact that I use a small electric heater instead. The furnace only comes on when the electric heater can no longer provide enough heat on its own to keep the TT warm.

Be careful closing a register substantially or completely, especially one that "really blows". If you reduce air flow in the system you can overheat your furnace. I'm sure furnaces have over temp sensors that would shut them off, but I really don't want to depend on that sensor.

I think talking to Jayco would be a good idea.

Please tell us what Jayco has to say about closing it....

Jayco answered promptly as follows: Thank you for the e-mail inquiry. Do not close off furnace vents or install a register that can be closed, this will cause the furnace to limit out and could cause damage to the furnace. Please set up an appointment with your dealer and I will have him change the ducting
coming out of the furnace so the duct with the longest run is in the top
hole of the furnace, the top hole in the furnace puts out more air flow.
Cordially,,

I dont like the blast of heat in the bathroom either. I have a bathmat in there on the floor and when necessary I just cover the vent with it. I like simple solutions

Just a follow-up. The dealer made the switchout Jayco suggested and said it wouldn't make any difference. Well, I'd say it reduced the air flow 30%. I would NOT say it fixed the problem.

Our old 97 Terry had the same deal, when we started shopping I made sure the Jayco we liked did not have this setup.

Our Antigua 195CK also had the same register. Round and forceful....also had to leave the door open to get the heat where we needed it. Bunks were usually cold, and bathroom super warm...I had lots of plans, and still have em, just dont have that camper anymore. Good luck hope you get to a solution..
