Where does that water come from????

Why do my fresh water tanks fill when I am hooked up to campground water? I always have to dump at least 40 gals. out before I leave the campground. Is there a valve open somewhere that I should close when at a full service campground? My 24FBS TT has 2 fresh water tanks.

Might check your control set up by your hose fill connection. We thought we filled our fresh water tank. Only to find out it was on fresh water hook up for camper only. LOL Happy Trails

If I remember correctly there is a check valve inside the water pump that prevents backfilling the water tanks. Valve is probably sticking or possibly bad.

There are only two routes into the fresh water tank, back through the pump (and past the check valve), or via the tank fill outside.
Next time try closing both valves on the suction side of your pump, the one from the tank and the winterizing hose.

This is more of a feature than a defect if you can figure out how to make it stop.

I'd love to be able to fill my FW tanks this way from time to time.

I say most times it's the check valve at the pump. Our class A would do this, but only when the water pressure reached 50 psi. At 40 it wouldn't leak. That said though, some will leak regardless and it just needs to be fixed.

All.....thanks. If the weather holds tomorrow, I will close both valves suggested on the suction side of the pump and see what happens. If that's not it, the check valve would be the next to fix. Is the check valve inside the pump or outside, like on the black tank flush line? I'll let ya know.

The pump is bad. My Jayco did it when new and the pump was replaced. My friends Dutchman and Forrest River both did it and once the pump was replaced it was fine.

Pump is good, it's just the check valve. Replaced mine for about $14. Easy job. It will also cause the pump to run when pressure bleads off.

Mine did that on our first trip. I just turned off city water, and turned on the pump and let it pump out the tank by turning on a faucet. Apparently whatever was making the check valve stay open in the pump got flushed out. The problem hasn't reappeared.

Found the solution today (I hope). One of the pump valves was open probably allowing city water to pass thru the pump and into the fresh water tanks. Haven't filled with city water yet but hope it's not a check valve problem. If it is the check valve, how do I replace it?

Happy RVing,
Jeff
