Winterization - Mattress Bags
Hi Folks,
I live in Canada and its now time to winterize the camper. I have picked up a few mattress bags from Dymon storage today with the intention of protecting the mattresses from any mice droppings/urine.
However I am wondering if putting the mattresses in a bag might result in condensation issue inside the bag, wetting the mattress. Does anyone have experience bagging their mattress. Good idea? Bad idea?

If the bag is truly sealled, your mattress should be fine.
Personally, I would not use it for protection from mice, as they can just chew through it.
Best bet, spend a little time under the camper, locate every hole, fill it with some steel wool, then use a good marine silicone caulk, to see it up. Then find the coresponding hole inside and do the same.
If they cannot get in, they aren't a problem.

Also try Fresh Cab® Rodent Repellent | earthkind. Place them around the inside of trailer, in lower cabinets, compartments. I've been using them for a few years and no mice. To me it's money well spent compared to the grief you experience if you do have a mice problem.

Great Stuff foam makes an insect and rodent repelling expanding foam, it's a bit hard to find. Pay attention to where the waterlines enter the interior, Jayco put a 6" hole in the floor in mine and just folded the cut flooring back over the hose. Tried steel wool, they just pulled it out of the way and came in, but he combo of steel wool and the foam stopped them. Haven't had single mouse since using the foam.

There are mattress protectors that you can get at furniture outlets or even online. I had bug problems and I tried it out which had good results. I also applied human friendly bug repellents. You can even get them at mattress stores nearby. I bought it Surplus furniture at Thunder Bay.

I've used the foam to keep them from getting in the house - stopped them totally. Need to seal the hole where the lines come in on our TT too, I was surprised to see how big of a hole Jayco made...

We use vacuum bags to store sheets, pillows, etc. They make them large enough for the mattresses.

Never had a problem storing my former Popup or current HTT leaving the mattress pads as is.
If you want the Expanding Foam for pests, Homedepot has it here in Ottawa.
Sometimes we can just overthink things. Otherwise I use a High Frequency Electronic Mouse/rodent deterrent. Plug it in and leave it on all winter.
