Worried about breaking the furnace on/off switch...jayco jayflight
During walkthrough I remember the guy warned me about this
That was weeks ago...noticed last night (at home) the furnace was on so I turned off the gas (shouldht have been on) and turned that little black switch on the furnace control box to off...it takes a little force to turn off/on alright
Im worried im gonna break this...has anyone broken one of these?
Is there a trick to switching this, do I pull it one way and then slide it on or off?? Was hard to see as it is buried behind a slideout and I cant slide it out at home.

If your talking about the thermostat yes, I agree, it's hard to adjust. I'm thinking of just replacing it.

We weren't shown the off on switch during our PDI. The first time we tried to turn on the furnace we pushed and pushed till we thought we would push the thermostat off the wall. We were about to give up and call the dealer when we saw the tiny Heat or Cool letters. I gave it one more try and it popped really loud but did not break (of course, this being the first time using the furnace, even with the door and windows open the smoke alarm went off). Still, after some use, the switch is still hard to slide. Welcome to Forum and have fun with your Jayco.

I've taken the thing apart. The little black arm you use to adjust it rides on a metal bar that has a ridge ( I know I'm not making any sense here). Anyway, to answer your question you should not break it. Your finger tip, however, will hurt.

Agreed, the switch is very difficult to move and your fingers will hurt, but don't believe you will break it (your finger or the switch).

It's these little things that keeps me scratching my head... It's not specifically Jayco’s fault except for the fact that they scoured the market to find the absolute cheapest thermostat out there.
No, it's the thermostat manufacturer. Wouldn't you think someone in the design department would say "hey, this hurts could there be another way to make it"?

I replaced mine with a digital one. Much nicer and you can put on a timer so it saves when you're not there.

Mine is newer than this but gives a good idea of how to wire.

Yep, broke mine. Had it replaced. The new one is much easier to operate.

I can see an occasional screw-up with a random part, but seems more like a systematic problem. In fact the Jayco dude during the walkthrough warned me that it is difficult. There are no excuses!

I remember my first time using the heat and for the life of me couldnt figure out why the switch wouldnt move. I was afraid I was going to break it. I looked at my wife and told her this could be bad and I pushed as hard as I could and it switched on. Next week I replaced it with a digital thermostat.

2015 Jay Flight SLX 267BHSW...I too fretted over the pressure it took to move the on/ off thermostat switch. For what its worth, I was surprised how short the "swing" from On and Off was. I expected the lever to travel much further from the On to the Off position. Knowing this , I applied enough pressure to "click" it from each position.

Replaced mine with digital thermostat also. Much better heating and cooling consistency. Coleman replacement about $70 at Amazon.

I actually took the cover off mine the first time to see why it was so hard to flip. Some time during that first summer, I dropped a wall clock on top of it while mounting it to the wall above the thermostat and broke the thermostat, so I replaced it with a digital unit.
