Wrecked truck
I was recently rear ended in my truck. While the ball and the bumper a hitch absorbed the damage, my main concern is the hitch. It's a factory installed hitch on a 2013 Silverado HD.
Should I replace it or roll on?

I got rear ended by an uninsured drunk driver 2.5 years ago. I had my utility trait hitch on. Insurance company fixed the light damage, checked the frame for twisting. Replaced then entire receiver unit and hitch as a precaution. They said they did not want to risk an incident down the road, that might be related to this accident.

Hopefully everyone is/was ok from the accident!!!
Did you turn the accident in to your ins co? If so, push for a new hitch! Argue the point and ask if they are willing to take responsibility if there is hidden damage.
Even if you didn't turn the accident in, at the very least have the hitch and frame inspected for damage.

I would push for replacement as a precaution. If not, insist that it be listed as a potential problem. That may get their attention.

All of the above! A good body shop will tell you the same thing, just replace it because you don't know what you don't know.

Always replace hitches when in an accident. If they try to straighten it, it compromises the integrity of the steel.

I would also push for hitch receiver replacement. The impact could have created stress risers and/or microscopic cracks that can't be detected now but can gradually grow and come back later to bite you where you sit with catastrophic results.

Same here. I was the middle vehicle in a three car accident, and the insurance company said its up to the body shop to determine if it needs replacing. But it would be covered if it did. They said it was too bent to be safe and they would replace it with an OEM hitch. I told them no, it was an aftermarket hitch with a higher rating than OEM, just check the sticker on the hitch. They had to look around to find one comparable, but they did. It was my insurance provider's policy to replace parts "like with like".

A force strong enough to bend a Class 3 or 4 receiver hitch would most likely also have bent the frame. I would make the body shop put the truck on a frame machine to make sure it did not bend it in any way. If it is bent at all, it won't ever were tires properly and could be unsafe to tow with.

I went through the same thing several months ago. I went back and forth, and decided to have them change it for a new OEM. I was glad I did. They found additional damage to it once the hitch was removed that was invisible without removing it.

A little more info on the wreck.
I was sitting waiting to make a left turn with traffic at a stop 1 car behind me. The car behind me was rear ended by a car traveling 35-45 mph. This sent the middle car into my truck. Luckily I had my 2" ball in the reciever. The ball tore up his radiator, and I was left with 2 small dents on my bumper. I replaced the pin that holds the ball in place. The adjuster came out and looked at my truck and said "I really dont think anything is wrong with the hitch, but for liability standpoint I will pay to have it replaced".
Still not 100% convinced it should be replaced as there is no visible damage.
