Yet another surge guard question

I use a 50 amp to 30 amp adapter at my campground. The 50 amp outlets do not get nearly the use as the 30 amp outlets. This also allows me to use the 30 amp outlet to connect other things that would overload me if all was connected to the 30 amp side. Do I need a 30 amp protector or a 50 amp protector? Can I continue to hook up to the 50 amp side with my adapter then have a 30 amp protector coming off the adapter, and plugging my 30 amp TT into the protector? Is the protector meant to plug directly into the pedestal?

If your trailer is 30 amp then use a 30 amp protector. Sequence: Pedestal->Adapter->Surge protector->trailer power cord.

A 50 amp protector would only use half of its circuit. When you use a 50 amp adapter one side is not used. A 50 amp circuit is 220V with two 110V legs. The adapter utilizes one of those legs.

The built in units make this simpler, not as much hanging from the pedestal.

Many completely different devices are called protectors. One popular type (ie Progressive) is a voltage monitor. Cuts off power if voltage exceeds 132 or drops below 104 VAC. These voltage variations are a concern to motorized appliances (ie refrigerator, air conditioner).

The other useful protector must be located as close as possible to the pedestal. To connect a completely different surge to earth. Better ones for RVs include a locking device so that the protector does not walk away during the night.

Depends on which anomaly must be addressed. Other anomalies include harmonics, frequency variation, EMI/EMC, floating neutral, noise, etc. Neither above protector addresses any of them. Those anomalies should be irrelevant. Above two protectors address more common anomalies.
