Battery went dead

HW 141J

I am missing a switch somewhere, after my last trip, my brand new battery had charge but when I open it up today I had no power. I made sure that the two switches by the door and water pump switch were off before closing from last trip.

Should I switch off the breakers in between trips to prevent a dead battery ??

A battery cut outs the best and a maintenance charger. Any chance something got left on, how long was it parked?

It was parked for 2 weeks , I do have a solar trickle charger that I didn't think to use since the battery is new.

Other than switches I mention and the radio was off as well, I can't think of anything else.

I use a battery disconnect switch as well. The smoke/LP and radio will keep drawing power. The disconnect is nice because you know nothing is draining power.

The battery will die in 2 weeks or so of not disconnected, there are constant drains such as the LP gas and Carbon monoxide detector that drain 24/7. Many of us have learned this the hard way as well and ended up with a dead battery.

All of us learn this lesson. Some more than once. I left my rig at the dealers once for a month, I remembered to winterize it but forgot the battery. It was beyond dead and had to be replaced.

Shortly after I installed a battery disconnect switch.

If you are not in a hurry to buy and install a battery disconnect switch, just pull the main 30 amp fuse located by the batteries. That will disconnect the batteries from the TT.

Or pull the negative cable off the battery, not positive could ark if your tool touches ground.

I think this is what happened to my battery. I was VERY anal about keeping it charged. I would always disconnect it and keep it in the garage on a float charger, always checking the water level and topping off with distilled, etc. Ever since I had warranty repair done on my trailer last year, battery hasn't been right. It was almost totally dead when I picked up my trailer. Now it won't hold more than 12.46V

It was just the standard Interstate Group 24 anyway, so I'll upgrade. Just have to decide which one(s) I want!

I had two 12V marine batteries that were in need of replacement. Napa had a sale on their local brand 6V batteries. I did a cost comparison between 2 6v and 2 12V batteries. the 6V batteries were cheaper AND I ended up with more battery capacity than had I bought 12V replacement batteries.

When my trailer sits for any length of time, I pull the battery fuse, but keep shore power plugged in. Then a couple days before the next trip, I use my 10amp battery charger to charge the batteries, then reinstall the fuse and let the inverter maintain float.
