braket thingie?

I was packing up the camper today since it was dry. I found a bracket mounted to one of the dinette benches. It is one of the table mounting brackets, like the one for the outside grill. What is it for?

It is to slide your grill/stove top in during transport. It holds it secure. My kids though have caught their feet on them while sitting down at the table when camping. Going to try using a pool noodle for protection.
