Can I tow a High Wall popup with a minivan?

We have a 2010 Jayco 1007 and are thinking of upgrading to a High Wall popup, something like a Flagstaff or Rockwood high wall series. Is that too big for a 2005 toyota Sienna minivan? The van is rated for 3500 lbs but the tow weight on those things is like 3100 (and more on the longer ones). Would that just be too much of a stretch?

The high-walls tend to be heavier (BIL had one) then a standard PUP (as your are aware), especially if they have a slide. The Sienna's tow rating of 3,500lbs will be reduced by the combined weights of the passengers and cargo.., and if the 3,100lb weight you stated is the UVW (dry) of the high-wall, then IMO you will exceed your van's weight limits under loaded conditions.

The members here who help out with their towing expertise will be best able to help you out if you could give them the tt and weight info of that particular tt you are interested in. Although willing to share their time, many don't have time to find the tt that could ultimately work for your tv.

Otherwise, not being a tow expert, we once upon a time towed with a 3500lb max tow mini-van. Our 17' Casita was at about 3100lbs loaded (this didn't even have black/grey tanks or the bathroom). Personally, I wouldn't recommend anyone else tow this combination. Also, our mini-van had a max tongue weight of 300lbs (the reason we couldn't get the bathroom with that model as it was too heavy on the tongue); definitely not good going over the tongue weight! Additionally, if you max out on the tongue weight on your mini-van, you aren't going to be able to safely add additionaly passenger and 'stuff' to the van while towing.

Yep, I would have to say that is going past the limits.

I just bought a jayco eagle high wall that is only 2500 lbs and tow with a dodge caravan. That seems to tow it very well and doesnt even squat in the rear. Now yes i know i dont have the van loaded as it would be on a camping trip.
