First post with questions

First thing, hi to everyone! My wife and I are getting ready to buy a super nice '09 1207. My questions concerns the outside shower and toilet choices. The first thing is what to use for the outside shower enclosure as I can't find anything from Jayco online. Second question is alternatives for the toilet issue because we're not real fond of the "porta potti" idea but aren't aware of any other choices. It's been 35 years since we bought our first pop up and things have sure changed since then. Thanks for your help, DR

It's hard to respond to those 2 issues because we're all so different when it comes to those things. There are small tent type enclosures folks use for privacy outside their camper. The hospital type bedside urinals are available, but not everyone's first choice. We enjoyed our 1207 and I'll bet you get things figured out and enjoy yours too.

During our pop up days we used this:

We would put the porta-potti inside and we were good to go.

I have read post over on PopUpPortal.com that people have set these up next to there outside shower cover door and then modified the shower tent to pull the shower wand thru it. I'm sure you'll find something that will work for you.

This picture was taken at Canton Lake in NW Oklahoma. We held one of our Oklahoma Pop Up rallies there a few years back.

we have the cabelas deluxe shower shelter, its on sale for $105 right now. not the easiest to set up but is pretty darn sturdy and very nicely constructed. we can even hang our solar shower from the top and thats a bit of weight. as far as a toilet goes , if we are in a public campground the wife likes to be fairly close to the restrooms and that works for us. otherwise there are a lot of choices out there. good luck with the 1207.

Our POPUP came with the CASSETTE POTTIE which has worked out great for us. They make two version one with a sit down shower/cassette pottie combo or a stand alone CASSETTE POTTIE. I recommend the stand alone version. In the five years we have had this setup i think we have used the sit down down shower only once. For us we either go to the camp ground shower or just do a stand up wash-up at the sink.

Since we very seldom use the shower part of this combo I would only install the stand alone version which will give you more floorspace..

This is what our shower/cassette pottie combo looks like and the stand alone cassette pottie.

The operation of these units is very easy and simple. They contain a 6-gallon water supply for flushing and everything stores in a pull-out tote tank which you can roll on its wheels to the bath house and pour down the toilet.

We have absolutely NO SMELL with this and it sits and feel just like the home toilet.

When not is use you can fold down a wood lid cover and use for storage of things...

I think your wife will really like these units. These units are self contained so no plumbing required.
We love ours in the OFF-ROAD POPUP.

We made it home with our NTU 1207 today. I wondered how our S10 TV would handle it and she did just fine, 65 mph and in overdrive. I think it actually made my ol' truck handle better. I had a idea yesterday about a shower enclosure. We have several pop up hunting blinds, a couple of them are of the cheaper hoop type that almost erect themselves. There about 6 ft. square and I'm able to stand up inside. They can be opened up for ventilation or closed up for privacy. If you keep your eyes open they can be found for around $50 on sale. All I need to do is lengthen my water hose for showering and they would make a good place to store the porta potti. DR

That is a good idea. My dad happens to have a blind similar to what you've got, and it's as sturdy as any of the dedicated shower enclosures. Roomier, too. May have to borrow it ... hmmm ...

Glad to hear you were able to pull your 1207 with no trouble.

The weather cooperated today and we got to set up our 1207 and get to know it a little better and finish cleaning up although it didn't need much. I think we're really gonna like it. The only thing I found that I didn't care for was all the velcro that had to be fastened on the slide outs. It's hard for an old guy with bad knees and bifocals to crawl under there and look up over his head! LOL Tearin' it down was a breeze.

I think you'll find after awhile you won't need to "look" anymore, I could do ours with my eyes closed. You'll get better at it the more you set it up.

... strongly agree. After doing it several times the setup and tear-down become routine. When I hear people talk about "all the setup" associated with a PUP, I don't understand. I never considered that to be too much - even in the rain and wind.

I think when you look back over a season or two, you will have had much more enjoyment than you had difficulties. Unless of course the people next to you think their favorite radio station is yours too. But that's a different subject.
