Fixed broken license plate holder.

I know there have been numerous threads on this, but I attempted to fix our broken plate holder. Both of the tabs that typically hold the plate had broke so I did the following. Just drilled new holes in the plastic tabs and attached the strapping. Then made some small notches in the lens for the strapping to go through, and bolted everything together. Hopefully this will keep it on there for a while.

Here's an alternate way of fixing it

My license plate was stolen one night while the TT was parked in front of the house. In the process, one of the plastic attachment tabs was broken off.

I removed the plastic tab from the other side and made new tabs from a piece of flat aluminum which I attached to the tail light housing with screws.

Below is the fix with the license plate attached.

I did this fix eight years ago. The license plate hasn't fallen off yet.

Nah, I just used just used stainless steel Phillips head screws for attaching the tabs to the tail light housing and a nut/locknut/bolt to hold the plate on. Nothing fancy. Most thieves would simply grab and yank the plate off anyway- just like the first time. Besides, there are only two screws to remove to get the license plate off where it attaches to the tabs rather than the six (three on each side) where the tabs are attached to the tail light housing.

I originally intended to use four screws on each tab, but it proved to be unnecessary (and also because the screw head wasn't going to clear the tail light housing). If you enlarge the photo, you can see the fourth hole I had drilled in the tab.

Truthfully, I don't think the license plate was stolen, but rather a malicious message sent from someone who didn't like my TT parked in front of my house- even though it was legally parked and there are no borough restrictions regarding parking RVs on the street.
