Gap above door

I just bought a used 2008 J series M806. I opened it at home to clean, organize, etc... and re-closed it. Then I noticed a strange 1/4" gap above the hard door that I don't recall ever seeing before (see pics). I re-opened it, thinking there was maybe a seal that hadn't lined up properly but there is nothing there. The top is down all the way and the door clearly is shorter than the door frame. Any ideas? This isn't standard, is it? Anyone know what I can plug it with? Thank you!

I just bought a 2011 Jayco 1006 and the previous owner had the same gap. He used a piece of foam pipe insulation for the door. I don't have any pics to post, since I haven't picked up the trailer, but can later this week when I get it.

We owned a PUP for 9yrs. Check your door frame alignment, hinges and seals. We had to replace our roof seal and the bottom rubber door sweep for our door over the years.

Here is a place that has the seal.

Hope this helps.

The door is a little shorter than the frame so it can be opened with the top down - the frame actually extends up to the top of the sidewall which is under the lip of the cap, so they should not align.

Now the gap on yours looks a bit wider than ours, our weatherstrip would rub the edge of the cap, but some gap should be there. There should be a weatherstrip on the top of the door that keeps water out. We never had any water infiltration with ours.

ETA: the next item on eBay after maromeo's link is the door topper seal: http://www.ebay.com/itm/JAYCO-DOOR-S...3D141469682849

Thanks everyone, I must be missing the weather stripping above the door. I'll check out some options at Home Depot this weekend. The foam insulation idea sounds promising.

Attached are a couple of pics of what the previous owner did with the gap.

He said it worked well for him.

Sorry they are sideways....

I have a 1990 Jay series 1006 and I have a pretty large gap. I know my door hinges are a little messed up. It's when traveling that this will be an issue. I bought some foam pieces that are actually for a window A/C and and stuffing it into the gap.

Hi everyone, thank you for all the ideas! I meant to post this update like a month ago but time got away from me. I bought a new door seal on eBay per suggestions (it was about $16). It was super easy. Thanks again!

Door gap above trailer door when closed

I think I'm having same issue on my 2001 Jayco eagle tent trailer. There's about a 1/2'' gap above door when it's collapsed down. We just bought this last week and never noticed it until we used it this weekend and then folded it back down. I searched on eBay but not sure what I need to buy to put there, there is a rubber piece on top of the lower door but it looks very worn. For now we used duct tape to block it off.

I bought a plastic door seal on eBay (they probably have them from Amazon or hardware stores too). It just screwed into the top of my door. I just checked and it looks like the original eBay item isn't listed anymore but it was called "Jayco door seal --bug seal". Probably any "door bug seal" will work. I had to cut mine down to the correct length.

I hope this helps!
